The 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship , the eleventh edition of the tournament, was held in the cities of Lima, Trujillo, Chiclayo, Piura and Iquitos in Peru between 16 September and 2 October 2005. Players born after 1 January 1988 could participate in this tournament. Mexico beat favorite Brazil by 3–0 in the final, making it the first U-17 Championship for Mexico.

The 2004 Copa América was the 41st edition of the Copa América, the South-American championship for international association football teams. The competition was organized by CONMEBOL, South America's football governing body, and was held in Peru, who hosted the tournament for the sixth time, from 6 to 25 July.

Listed below are the dates and results for the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification rounds for South America. 10 teams took part, all in a single group. The rules were very simple: the teams would play against each other in a home-and-away basis, with the four teams with most points qualifying to the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The fifth ranked team would have to play-off against the best team from Oceania, with the winner of this play-off also qualifying. For the first time, defending champions Brazil was required to go through the qualifying process and did not automatically qualify for the tournament.

Estadio Miguel Grau is a multi-use stadium in Piura, Peru, built in 1958. It is currently used by football team Atlético Grau. Throughout the years the stadium has undergone many renovations, most recently for the Copa America 2004. For this international competition, the stadium capacity was raised to 25,500. It was also used to host several games in the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship, in which artificial turf and a new electronic scoreboard were installed.

The 2004 season is the 82nd season of competitive football in Ecuador.

The Second Stage of the 2010 Copa Santander Libertadores was a group stage. It was contested from February 9 to April 22.

The 2011 Torneo Descentralizado de Fútbol Profesional was the ninety-fifth season of Association Peruvian football. A total of 16 teams competed in the tournament, with Universidad de San Martín as the defending champion. The Torneo Descentralizado began on 12 February and concluded on 14 December with the victory of Juan Aurich over Alianza Lima in the penalty kicks of the final Play-off, giving Juan Aurich its debut Peruvian title.

The 2014 Torneo Descentralizado de Fútbol Profesional was the 98th season of the highest division of Peruvian football. A total of 16 teams competed in the tournament. The Torneo Descentralizado began on June 7 and ended on December 21 2014.

The 2015 Copa Libertadores second stage was played from February 17 to April 22, 2015. A total of 32 teams competed in the second stage to decide the 16 places in the final stages of the 2015 Copa Libertadores.
