The 2008 North American SuperLiga was the second edition of the SuperLiga competition. The top four Major League Soccer and Liga MX teams by point totals at the end of the season earned qualification. [1] All games of the tournament were broadcast live on Fox Sports World in Canada (English), Telefutura in the United States (Spanish), and Televisa and TV Azteca in Mexico (both Spanish).

There were two groups of four teams. Each group contained two clubs from each league with the top two teams from each groups advancing to the semifinals.

The 2008 Pan-Pacific Championship is the inaugural edition of the Pan-Pacific Championship association football competition which took place on February 20 and February 23 in Honolulu, Hawaii, featuring teams from Japan's J. League, United States Major League Soccer (MLS) and the A-League of Australia and New Zealand.

The 2008–09 CONCACAF Champions League group stage took place between 16 September 2008 and 26 November 2008. It consisted of 16 clubs arranged into four groups of four with the top-two in each group advancing to the knockout stage.

The 2009 SuperLiga was the third edition of the SuperLiga. The knockout stage of the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup started on June 18 and ended with the final on June 25, 2011. The group winners and runners-up and the two best third placed teams from the group stage qualified.

The United States national team has participated in all seventeen editions of the CONCACAF Gold Cup since its foundation in 1991 to replace the CONCACAF Championship. The United States is also the second-most successful team in the tournament, having won seven titles since the beginning of the Gold Cup, behind Mexico by just two titles. Before the Gold Cup however, the United States only qualified for two of the previous ten CONCACAF Championships.

The 2008 North American SuperLiga was played on August 5th, 2008, at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Masschusetts. The match determined the winner of the 2008 North American SuperLiga, a tournament contested by the top four Major League Soccer and Liga MX teams by point totals at the end of the previously season. This was the 2nd edition of the tournament. The match was won by the New England Revolution, who defeated the Houston Dynamo 6–5 on penalties after drawing the match 2-2. New England's goals were scored by Steve Ralston and Shalrie Joseph, and the win marked the club's second trophy.
