At the 1964 Summer Olympics, 16 wrestling events were contested, for all men. There were eight weight classes in Greco-Roman wrestling and eight classes in freestyle wrestling.

Taha Akgül is an Olympic, World and European champion Turkish freestyle wrestler competing in the 125 kg division. He is a graduate of the Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Physical Education and Sports Academy and completed his master's degree at Sivas Cumhuriyet University.

The women's freestyle 51 kg is a competition featured at the 2013 European Wrestling Championships, and was held at the Tbilisi Sports Palace in Tbilisi, Georgia on 20 March 2013.

Bajrang Punia is an Indian freestyle wrestler, who competes in the 65-kg weight category. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Punia won a bronze medal by defeating Kazakhstan's Daulet Niyazbekov with a 8-0 margin. Punia is the only Indian wrestler to win 4 medals at the World Wrestling Championships.

Petra Maarit Olli is a retired Finnish freestyle wrestler. She won the silver medal at the 2015 World Wrestling Championships in the Women's freestyle 58 kg-event. In March 2016 Olli won her first European Championship gold medal at the Senior-level in Riga, Latvia, defeating Oksana Herhel of Ukraine.

The 2021 Poland Open was an amateur wrestling event held in Warsaw, Poland between 8 and 13 June 2021. It served as the last United World Wrestling Ranking Series event of the year and played a role with regard to the 2020 Summer Olympics and 2021 World Championships' seeding. The event consisted of three competitions: the Waclaw Ziolkowski Memorial, Wladyslaw Pytlasinski Cup and Poland Open.
