2017 Equatorial Guinean parliamentary election

Parliamentary elections were held in Equatorial Guinea on 12 November 2017. The ruling Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea won all but one of the seats in the Chamber of Deputies, every seat in the Senate and control of every local council. [1]

Electoral system

The 100 members of the Chamber of Deputies are elected by closed-list proportional representation from multi-member constituencies based on the 19 electoral districts [2] with an electoral threshold of 10%. [3] Of the 70 members of the Senate, 55 are elected from the same 19 electoral districts also by closed-list proportional representation and with an electoral threshold of 10%. An additional 15 members are appointed. [4]

General elections in Spain are the elections in which the citizens of Spain choose members of the Congress of Deputies and of the Senate, the two chambers of the Cortes Generales that represent the Spanish people. They are held every four years, unless a repeat or early election is called. Since the adoption of the Constitution of 1978, 14 general elections have been held in Spain. The most recent elections were held in July of 2023. Members of the Congress of Deputies are elected via a system of proportional representation. Members of the Senate are elected via a mixed system: some are elected via a majoritarian system and others are appointed by the legislatures of autonomous communities.
