The 2017 Kansas Jayhawks football team represented the University of Kansas in the 2017 NCAA Division I FBS football season. It was the Jayhawks 128th season. The Jayhawks were led by third-year head coach David Beaty. They played their home games at Memorial Stadium and were members of the Big 12 Conference.

Head coach David Beaty received a contract extension following the Jayhawks' 2016 season keeping him under contract until the conclusion of the 2021 season. [1]

The Jayhawks entered the season with a 41-game road losing streak that dates back to the 2009 season when Kansas defeated UTEP 34–7, which was extended to 46 during the season. The Jayhawks have also lost 39 of their last 41 games against FBS opponents, including 12 straight. The Jayhawks also finished the season with an 11 game losing streak, losing every game after they defeated Southeast Missouri State in their season opener. Since the conclusion of the 2015 season, the team has gone 3–33.

The Jayhawks returned 2nd team All-Big 12 junior defensive end, Dorance Armstrong, who was also named Pre-season Big 12 Defensive Player of the year for the 2017 season. [2]

Billy Eugene Self Jr. is an American basketball coach. He is the head men's basketball coach at the University of Kansas, a position he has held since 2003. During his 20 seasons as head coach, he has led the Jayhawks to 17 Big 12 regular season championships, including an NCAA record 14 consecutive Big 12 regular season championships, some of which were shared (2005–2018). He has also led the Jayhawks to three NCAA Final Four appearances, the 2008 NCAA championship and 2022 NCAA championship. Self was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017. At the end of the 2021–22 season, Self had the 18th most wins among Division I coaches in NCAA history and 4th among active head coaches. Turner Hillery Gill is an American college athletic administrator and former football player and coach. He is the Executive Director of Student-Athlete and Staff Development at the University of Arkansas, a position he assumed in 2019. Gill has served as head football coach at the University at Buffalo (2006–09), the University of Kansas (2010–11) and Liberty University (2012–18), compiling a career college football coaching record of 72–84. He was one of 11 black head coaches in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision at the time of his hiring at Kansas.

The Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball program is the intercollegiate men's basketball program of the University of Kansas. The program is classified in the NCAA's Division I and the team competes in the Big 12 Conference. Kansas is considered one of the most prestigious college basketball programs in the country with six overall national championships, as well being runner-up six times and having the most conference titles in the nation. The Jayhawks also own the NCAA record for most consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances with 28 consecutive appearances. They were also, along with Dartmouth, the first team to appear in multiple NCAA Tournaments after making their second appearance in the 1942 tournament. Lance Leipold is an American college football coach who has been the head football coach at the University of Kansas since 2021. Leipold served as the head football coach at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater (UWW) from 2007 to 2014 and at University at Buffalo from 2015 to 2020. During his tenure at UWW, the Wisconsin–Whitewater Warhawks won the NCAA Division III Football Championship in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2014 and were runners-up in 2008. During his time at Wisconsin-Whitewater, Leipold led the Warhawks to 5 undefeated seasons.
