On 22 April 2018, a bus in North Hwanghae Province, North Korea transporting Chinese tourists fell off a bridge, killing thirty-two Chinese tourists and four North Koreans, who were organized by the Utopia. [1] [2] The cause of the accident was not immediately disclosed. [3]
The bus was traveling from Kaesong to Pyongyang, when the bus went off of the bridge in the North Hwanghae Province. [4]
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited the Chinese embassy in Pyongyang to express his condolences regarding the accident. [5]
Transport in North Korea is constrained by economic problems and government restrictions. Public transport predominates, and most of it is electrified.
Pyongyang is the capital and largest city of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), commonly known as North Korea, where it is sometimes labeled as the "Capital of the Revolution". In 2003, Kaesong Directly Governed City became part of North Hwanghae as Kaepung County. Later on in 2019, it was promoted as Special City. Thus, it was separated from North Hwanghae.
Dandong, formerly known as Andong, is a coastal prefecture-level city in southeastern Liaoning province, in the northeastern region of People's Republic of China.
The Pyongyang Metro is the rapid transit system in Pyongyang, the capital and largest city of North Korea. It consists of two lines: the Chollima Line, which runs north from Puhŭng Station on the banks of the Taedong River to Pulgŭnbyŏl Station, and the Hyŏksin Line, which runs from Kwangbok Station in the southwest to Ragwŏn Station in the northeast. The Sant Pol de Mar bus crash was a traffic accident which occurred on the evening of 30 July 2009 in Sant Pol de Mar, near Barcelona, in north-eastern Spain. A double-decker bus carrying Dutch tourists left the highway on a bend at the exit for the town, hit a car and a metal crash barrier and overturned. Six Dutch tourists were killed and between 36 and 44 people, including the driver, were injured, some seriously.
The Korean State Railway, commonly called the State Rail, is the operating arm of the Ministry of Railways of North Korea and has its headquarters at P'yŏngyang. The current Minister of Railways is Chang Jun-song.
The Pyongyang Folklore Park was an amusement park located in Pyongyang, North Korea, at the foot of Mount Taesong. It was built with a historical theme, and construction began in December 2008. There are also folk parks in Sukchon, South Pyongan Province and Sariwon, North Hwanghae Province. South Korean folk parks with an historical theme such as Korean Folk Village are popular attractions. Tourists rarely visited the park. When tourists did visit, they were usually part of organized tours. The park was shut down for renovations in June 2016. News reports speculated that the facility reminded Kim Jong-un of his uncle, Jang Sung-taek, who managed the project before his execution in 2013. In 2016, satellite imagery showed that the park had been demolished.
The 2012 North Korean floods began in mid-July 2012 when Tropical Storm Khanun affected parts of the country, killing at least 88 people and leaving more than 62,000 people homeless. Torrential rains on 29 and 30 July 2012 worsened the situation, causing additional damage and casualties and forcing the government to request international assistance. Severe rainfall also affected the southern region of North Korea in August, killing at least six.
The Ji'an bus accident occurred on July 1, 2015, in Ji'an, China, in which a bus carrying visiting South Korean civil servants went off a bridge. Ten Koreans and the Chinese bus driver were killed, and another 17 were injured.
The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is the diplomatic mission of the People's Republic of China in DPR Korea.
