The 2021 Formula One Esports Series was the fifth season of the Formula One Esports Series. [1] It started on 13 October 2021, and ended on 16 December 2021. It was held in Formula One's official 2021 game. Same as the previous year, the championship was held online due to COVID-19 pandemic and streamed on the official F1 YouTube Channel.
Jarno Opmeer and Red Bull Racing Esports entered the season as the reigning champion, having won the Drivers' and Team's Championship title respectively in 2020. Jarno Opmeer successfully defended the Drivers' Championship title for the second consecutive year, while his new team, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Esports Team secured the Teams' Championship title for the first time since 2018. Points were awarded to the top 10 classified finishers in the race and one point was given to the driver who set the fastest lap inside the top ten. No extra points are awarded to the pole-sitter.

Formula One, commonly known as Formula 1 or F1, is the highest class of international racing for open-wheel single-seater formula racing cars sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The FIA Formula One World Championship has been one of the world's premier forms of racing since its inaugural running in 1950. The current Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team is based in Brackley, England, and possesses a German licence. An announcement was made in December 2020 that Ineos planned to take a one third equal ownership stake alongside the Mercedes-Benz Group and Toto Wolff; this came into effect on 25 January 2022. Mercedes-branded teams are often referred to by the nickname, the "Silver Arrows".
Hendrik Johannes Nicasius "Nyck" de Vries is a Dutch racing driver currently competing for Mahindra Racing in Formula E and Toyota Gazoo Racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship. He won the 2020–21 Formula E World Championship and the 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship as well as the 2010 and 2011 Karting World Championships. He was signed to the McLaren Young Driver Programme from January 2010 until May 2019. De Vries made his Formula One debut in September 2022 as a substitute for Williams at the 2022 Italian Grand Prix. He joined Scuderia AlphaTauri for the 2023 season but was released after the 2023 British Grand Prix – the 10th race of that 22-race season.

The FIA Formula One Esports Series is a professional esports programme promoted by Formula 1. The programme was created in 2017 to involve the official Formula 1 video game and its community of players, providing a new avenue for greater engagement with the sport of Formula 1. In 2018, the official Formula 1 teams joined the programme for the first time to set up their own esports teams to compete in the Formula 1 Esports Series championship.

As a response to the COVID-19 pandemic the championship had no fixed venue, and was instead held online and streamed on the official F1 Youtube channel.
The 2019 Formula One Esports Series was the third season of the Formula One Esports Series. It started on September 11, 2019 and ended on December 4, 2019. It was held on Formula One's official 2019 game. The championship was held at Gfinity Arena in London, United Kingdom. David Tonizza became the new Formula One Esports Series champion, as Red Bull Racing Esports won the Constructor's Championship title for the first time.
