The 2022 China-Arab States Summit was the 1st summit of the heads of state and representatives of 21 countries of the Arab League, and the head of state of the People's Republic of China. It was held on 9 December 2022, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. [1] [2] [3]

Preparation

In March 2021, the 155th session of the League of Arab States Council at the level of foreign ministers adopted a resolution on strengthening relations with China, one of the key elements of which was to once again welcome the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's hosting of the inaugural Arab-China Summit. [4] [5]

In December 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a report on China-Arab Cooperation in the New Era, which stated that China is willing to take the convening of the first China-Arab Summit as an opportunity to build a China-Arab community of destiny facing the new era together with Arab countries, and to jointly safeguard the cause of world peace and development. [6]

On December 7, 2022, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying announced that at the invitation of King Salman of Saudi Arabia, President Xi Jinping will go to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from December 7 to 10 to attend the first China-Arab Summit, the summit of the China-Gulf Cooperation Council for the Arab States, and pay a state visit to Saudi Arabia. Participating leaders

In addition to the visiting President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, the participating leaders were Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt, King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan, King Hamad bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalif of Bahrain, Crown Prince Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah of Kuwait, President Kais Saied of Tunisia, President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti, President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar, President Azali Assoumani of Comoros, President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani of Mauritania, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani of Iraq, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch of Morocco, Prime Minister Aïmene Benabderrahmane of Algeria, and Prime Minister Najib Mikati of Lebanon, as well as Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit of the Arab League and heads of other international organizations. Meeting

On the afternoon of December 7, 2022, President Xi arrived in Riyadh. On December 9, the first China-Arab Summit was held at the King Abdulaziz International Convention Center in the Riyadh. President Xi Jinping attended the summit and delivered a keynote speech. [10] At the first China-Arab Summit, Xi proposed "eight common actions" for China-Arab practical cooperation. The summit issued the Riyadh Declaration of the First China-Arab Summit, announcing that China and the Arab countries agreed to make every effort to build a China-Arab community of destiny for the new era. [11] The Summit issued the Outline of the Comprehensive Cooperation Program between the People's Republic of China and the Arab States and the Document on Deepening the Sino-Arab Strategic Partnership for Peace and Development. On the morning of Dec. 10, President Xi Jinping departed for his home country after attending the China-Arab Summit, the China-Gulf Arab States Cooperation Council Summit and paying a state visit to Saudi Arabia. [14]

The extraordinary G20 summit on COVID-19 is a G20 leaders' summit was held virtually via a video conference on 26 March 2020. The extraordinary G20 summit was called and chaired by King Salman of Saudi Arabia to support a coordinated global response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The CPC and World Political Parties Summit was an international relations video conference between various international political parties, including both governing and non-governing parties, held on 6 July 2021. It was chaired by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party. The summit involved representatives from 500 political parties across 160 countries and over 10,000 party representatives. The theme of the summit was "For the People's Wellbeing: The Responsibility of Political Parties".

The 2022 Arab League summit, officially the 31st Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the Summit Level, was held at its 31st session in Algiers. This was the fourth time the city hosted this event. All Arab countries were represented at the event, with the exception of Syria, which has been suspended since 2011 due to the ongoing crisis. The summit was postponed several times before its date was confirmed on 1 November 2022. It was initially to be held in 2020, 2021 and finally March 2022. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed to November to coincide with the anniversary of the outbreak of the Algerian Revolution. The summit was also the first since a number of countries normalized relations with Israel, causing a schism in the Arab position, which had remained united over what was stipulated in the Beirut 2002 initiative.

The 2023 France–China summit was a three-day state visit by Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, to China from April 5 to 7, 2023. It was Macron's first visit to China since the COVID-19 pandemic and his third since taking office in 2017. He was accompanied by a delegation of more than 50 CEOs and met with members of the French business community in China. He also met with Xi Jinping, the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party and President of China, and Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, to discuss various issues. By recalling the solid foundation of China-France relations and the friendship between the two peoples, the two heads of state had an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations, China-EU relations and major international and regional issues, especially the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine and China's potential role as a mediator between Russia and the West. The visit was seen as an attempt to "reconnect" with China after three years of its zero-Covid policy and despite Beijing's increasing benevolence to Russia in the context of the Russo-Ukrainian war.

China-Central Asia Summit is a diplomatic summit held by the leaders of the People's Republic of China and the five Central Asian countries. The first China-Central Asia Summit was held at the Xi'an International Conference Center in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province from May 18 to 19, 2023. Xi Jinping, the paramount leader of China, presided over the summit, and the heads of state of the five Central Asian countries attended the summit.
