The 2022 Perlis state election, formally the 15th Perlis state election, took place on 19 November 2022. [1] This election was to elect 15 members of the 15th Perlis State Legislative Assembly. The previous assembly was dissolved on 14 October 2022. [2]

Contents

The incumbent Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition faced a historic wipeout (first time in Perlis and second time in national level), [3] winning no seats. The Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition won 14 of 15 seats (achieving supermajority) and formed the first ever non-UMNO/BN government in the state's history. Pakatan Harapan (PH) meanwhile won only one seat, becoming the sole opposition in the state assembly.

Aftermath

Mohd Shukri Ramli from PAS was sworn in as the new Menteri Besar on 22 November 2022, while the 6 state EXCO members were sworn in on 25 November 2022. [5] Gan Ay Ling, the sole opposition member of the Assembly, was made the Opposition Leader. [6]

He served as the 17th Menteri Besar of Johor from April 2019 to the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) state administration in February 2020 and Member of the Johor State Executive Council (EXCO) in the PH state administration under former Menteri Besar Osman Sapian from May 2018 to his promotion to the Menteri Besarship in April 2019 as well as Chairman of the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (MPIB) from May 2020 to December 2022. He is a member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a component party of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) and formerly PH coalitions. He is also the shortest-serving Menteri Besar of Johor after serving in the position for only 321 days.

Chong Fat Full is a Malaysian politician who served as Member of the Johor State Executive Council (EXCO) in the Barisan Nasional (BN) state administration under Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad from March 2020 to March 2022. He served as Member of Johor State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Pemanis from May 2018 to March 2022. Mohammad Azmir Azizan is a Malaysian politician and school administrator who has served as Member of the Perlis State Executive Council (EXCO) in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) state administration under Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli as well as Member of the Perlis State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Santan since November 2022. He is a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a component party of the PN coalition.
