The Bahamas, officially the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, is a country within the Lucayan Archipelago of the West Indies in the Atlantic. It takes up 97% of the Lucayan Archipelago's land area and is home to 88% of the archipelago's population. The archipelagic state consists of more than 3,000 islands, cays, and islets in the Atlantic Ocean, and is located north of Cuba and northwest of the island of Hispaniola and the Turks and Caicos Islands, southeast of the US state of Florida, and east of the Florida Keys. The capital is Nassau on the island of New Providence. The Royal Bahamas Defence Force describes The Bahamas' territory as encompassing 470,000 km2 (180,000 sq mi) of ocean space.

Poitier was one of the last major stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood cinema.

The Bahamas is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy headed by King Charles III in his role as King of the Bahamas. The politics of the Bahamas takes place within a framework of parliamentary democracy, with a Prime Minister as the Head of Government. The Bahamas is an Independent Country and a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. As a former British colony, its political and legal traditions closely follow those of the United Kingdom. King Charles III is the head of state, but executive power is exercised by the cabinet. Legislative power is vested in the two chambers of parliament. The Judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature and jurisprudence is based on English common law. The multi-party system is dominated by the Progressive Liberal Party and the Free National Movement. The constitution protects freedom of speech, press, worship, movement, and association.

The dollar has been the currency of The Bahamas since 1966. It is normally abbreviated with the dollar sign $, or alternatively B$ to distinguish it from other dollar-denominated currencies. It is divided into 100 cents.

The monarchy of the Bahamas is a system of government in which a hereditary monarch is the sovereign and head of state of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. The current Bahamian monarch and head of state since 8 September 2022, is King Charles III. As sovereign, he is the personal embodiment of the Bahamian Crown. Although the person of the sovereign is equally shared with 14 other independent countries within the Commonwealth of Nations, each country's monarchy is separate and legally distinct. As a result, the current monarch is officially titled King of the Bahamas and, in this capacity, he and other members of the royal family undertake public and private functions domestically and abroad as representatives of the Bahamian state. However, the King is the only member of the Royal Family with any constitutional role.

Albany is a luxury resort community on the island of New Providence in The Bahamas, which opened October 2010. Tavistock Group, Tiger Woods, and Ernie Els created the community on approximately 600 acres (240 ha) on the oceanfront at the southwestern end of the island. Albany has an Els-designed 18-hole championship golf course, a luxury boutique hotel, a family water park, an adult pool, a spa and fitness center, a children's clubhouse, a variety of restaurants and bars, and a 71-slip mega-yacht marina.

Alan Joseph Bankman is an American lawyer, currently the Ralph M. Parsons Professor of Law and Business at Stanford Law School, and a licensed psychologist. He earned a BA from the University of California, Berkeley in 1977 and a JD from Yale Law School in 1980. He later earned a doctorate in clinical psychology from Palo Alto University and interned at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Samuel Bankman-Fried, also known by his initials SBF, is an American entrepreneur, investor and former billionaire. Bankman-Fried was the founder and CEO of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX, FTX.US and cryptocurrency trading firm Alameda Research. FTX experienced a crisis in late 2022, which led to a collapse in FTX's native cryptocurrency, FTT. Amid the crisis, Bankman-Fried announced he would wind down operations at Alameda Research and resigned as CEO of FTX, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

FTX Trading Ltd. (FTX) is a defunct company, currently in bankruptcy proceedings that formerly operated a cryptocurrency exchange and crypto hedge fund. The exchange was founded in 2019 and, at its peak in July 2021, had over one million users and was the third-largest cryptocurrency exchange by volume. FTX is incorporated in Antigua and Barbuda and headquartered in The Bahamas. FTX is closely associated with FTX.US, a separate exchange available to US residents.

On 8 September 2022, at 15:10 BST, Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms, and the longest-reigning British monarch, died of old age at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, at the age of 96. The Queen's death was publicly announced at 18:30. She was succeeded by her eldest child, Charles III.

Caroline Ellison is an American business executive. She is the former CEO of Alameda Research, a quantitative trading firm founded by Sam Bankman-Fried. According to an anonymous source cited by the Wall Street Journal in November 2022, Alameda Research owed $10 billion to cryptocurrency exchange FTX. The source said FTX had lent the trading firm money from customer funds at FTX. Ellison was terminated from her position after FTX and Alameda filed for bankruptcy.

The rapid collapse and bankruptcy of FTX, a Bahamas-based cryptocurrency exchange, has had a wide impact on cryptocurrency markets. Prior to its collapse, FTX was the third-largest cryptocurrency exchange by volume and had over one million users.

Sam Trabucco is an American business executive. He was the former co-CEO of Alameda Research, a quantitative trading firm founded by Sam Bankman-Fried. He was the co-CEO of the firm along with Caroline Ellison until August 2022 when he stepped down from the role of CEO.
