An election to all 18 seats on Cavan County Council will be held on 7 June 2024 as part of the 2024 Irish local elections. [1] County Cavan is divided into 3 local electoral areas (LEAs) to elect councillors for a five-year term of office on the electoral system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV). [2]

Contents

The period for nominations will run from 10 a.m. on Saturday 11 May and end at 12 p.m. on Saturday 18 May 2024. Candidates may be nominated by a registered political party, through the submission of 15 assents from voters in the local electoral area, or alternatively with a deposit of €100. [3] [4]

This election coincided with an increase in the city area. Several outgoing members of Cork County Council, based in areas transferred to the city, stood for election to the city council. As well as the extension of all LEAs into the former county area, the former LEA of North Central was abolished and its area divided between North West and North East.
