The 219th New Jersey Legislature began on January 14, 2020, following the 2019 elections for Assembly, and one special election for Senate. [1] It ended on January 11, 2022.
Elections will be held in November 2019 for all 80 seats in the Assembly and one Senate seat. After Senator Jeff Van Drew resigned to join The United States House of Representatives Assemblyman Bob Andrzejczak was appointed to fill his seat, creating a special election to be held in November 2019. Cumberland County Republican Chairman Mike Testa, and former Assemblyman Sam Fiocchi announced their intentions to run for the republican nomination for senate in the 1st District. [2] In the Assembly, as of March 30, 2019, Assemblymen David Wolfe, Michael Patrick Carroll, and Assemblywomen Amy Handlin, Patricia Egan Jones have all announced their planned retirement from the Assembly. [3] During the June primaries 8th District Assemblyman Joe Howarth lost to former Burlington County Sheriff Jean Stanfield.[ citation needed ]
The Senate seat vacated by the September 2019 death of Anthony Bucco will be filled first by an interim appointment and then by a special election in 2020. [4]

Thomas Howard Kean Jr. is an American Republican politician. From 2001 until 2003, he was a New Jersey General Assemblyman, and represented the 21st Legislative District, which includes parts of Union, Morris, Somerset, and Essex counties. In 2003, he was elected a New Jersey state senator representing the same district, and in January 2008 became Minority Leader of the New Jersey Senate, and has served in the position until retiring from the Senate in 2022.
Anthony R. Bucco was an American Republican Party politician who served in the New Jersey Senate from 1998, where he represented the 25th Legislative District until his death. Bucco served as Co-Majority Leader in the New Jersey Senate with Republican Robert Singer and Democrat Bernard Kenny when both Republicans and Democrats had 20 seats in the Senate he previously served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 1995 to 1998. His son Tony Bucco was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly and was named to succeed him in the State Senate.
Michael James Pappas is an American politician and former one term Republican Congressman from New Jersey, serving from 1997 to 1999. He is currently the Township Administrator in Bridgewater, New Jersey. He was an unsuccessful candidate for State Senator in New Jersey's 16th legislative district in the 2021 election.
Anthony Mark Bucco is an American Republican Party politician currently serving as the State Senator for New Jersey's 25th Legislative District. Bucco is an attorney who currently serves on the Morris County Republican Committee as its general counsel. He was previously a member of the New Jersey General Assembly, and was appointed to the State Senate in 2019 following the death of his father, incumbent Senator Anthony Bucco.
New Jersey's 25th Legislative District is one of 40 in the New Jersey Legislature. As of the 2011 apportionment, the district includes the Morris County municipalities of Boonton Town, Boonton Township, Chester Borough, Chester Township, Denville Township, Dover Town, Mendham Borough, Mendham Township, Mine Hill Township, Morris Township, Morristown, Mount Arlington, Mountain Lakes, Netcong, Randolph Township, Rockaway Borough, Roxbury Township, Victory Gardens, Washington Township and Wharton; and the Somerset County municipality of Bernardsville.
Robert John "Bob" Andrzejczak is an American Democratic Party politician who represented the 1st Legislative District in the New Jersey State Senate from January 15, 2019, when he was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Jeff Van Drew, until December 5, 2019. Andrzejczak previously served in the New Jersey General Assembly from March 21, 2013, to January 14, 2019, when he was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Matthew W. Milam.
The 2020 United States Senate election in New Jersey was held on November 3, 2020, to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the State of New Jersey. It was held concurrently with the 2020 United States presidential election, as well as various other elections. The primary elections were moved from June 2, 2020, to July 7, 2020, due to COVID-19 pandemic concerns.
A general election was held in the U.S. state of New Jersey on November 5, 2019. Primary elections were held on June 4. The only state positions that were up in this election cycle were all 80 seats in the New Jersey General Assembly and one Senate special election in the 1st Legislative District. In addition to the State Legislative elections, numerous county offices and freeholders in addition to municipal offices were up for election. There were no statewide questions on the ballot in 2019, though some counties and municipalities may have had a local question asked. Non-partisan local elections, some school board elections, and some fire district elections also happened in 2019.

Gerard P. Scharfenberger is an American professor and Republican Party politician who has served in the New Jersey General Assembly representing the 13th Legislative District since 2020, replacing Amy Handlin. Scharfenberger had previously served on the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and as Mayor of Middletown Township.
Michael L. Testa Jr. is an American Republican Party politician who represents the 1st Legislative District in the New Jersey Senate. Testa was elected to the state senate on November 5, 2019 in the special election to fill the remaining 14 months of the unfinished term of Jeff Van Drew, who won a seat to the United States House of Representatives in 2018. Testa was sworn into office on December 5, 2019.
Erik K. Simonsen is an American musician and Republican Party politician who has represented the 1st Legislative District in the New Jersey General Assembly since January 14, 2020, after defeating incumbent Assemblymen R. Bruce Land and Matthew W. Milam in the 2020 general election. Simonsen served as Mayor of Lower Township from 2016 until 2020.
Aura Kenny Dunn is an American Republican Party politician who served as a member of the New Jersey General Assembly from November 25, 2019 until January 14, 2020. She was sworn in again on February 3, 2020.
Jean Stanfield is an American politician who has served in the New Jersey Senate from the 8th Legislative District since 2022. She previously served in the New Jersey General Assembly, representing the 8th Legislative District from 2020 to 2022. Stanfield previously served as Sheriff of Burlington County from 2002 to 2019.
The 2022 United States House of Representatives elections in New Jersey will be held on November 8, 2022, to elect representatives for the twelve seats in New Jersey.

The 2025 New Jersey gubernatorial election is scheduled to take place on November 4, 2025, to elect the governor of New Jersey. Incumbent Democratic Governor Phil Murphy is term-limited and ineligible to seek a third consecutive term.
