The 7th Moscow International Film Festival was held from 20 July to 3 August 1971. [1] The Golden Prizes were awarded to the Italian film Confessions of a Police Captain directed by Damiano Damiani, the Japanese film Live Today, Die Tomorrow! directed by Kaneto Shindo and the Soviet film The White Bird Marked with Black directed by Yuri Ilyenko.

Kaneto Shindo

Kaneto Shindo was a Japanese film director, screenwriter, film producer, and author. He directed 48 films and wrote scripts for 238. His best known films as a director include Children of Hiroshima, The Naked Island, Onibaba, Kuroneko and A Last Note. His scripts were filmed by such directors as Kon Ichikawa, Keisuke Kinoshita, Seijun Suzuki, Fumio Kamei, and Tadashi Imai.

The Moscow International Film Festival is the film festival first held in Moscow in 1935 and became regular since 1959. From its inception to 1959 it was held every second year in July, alternating with the Karlovy Vary festival. The festival has been held annually since 1999.

Gian Maria Volonté Italian actor

Gian Maria Volonté was an Italian actor, remembered for his versatility as an interpreter, his outspoken left-wing leanings and fiery temper on and off-screen. He is perhaps most famous outside Italy for his roles in four Spaghetti Western films: Ramón Rojo and El Indio in Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars (1964) and For a Few Dollars More (1965), El Chuncho Munoz in Damiano Damiani's A Bullet for the General (1966) and Professor Brad Fletcher in Sergio Sollima's Face to Face (1967).

The White Bird Marked with Black is a 1971 Soviet period drama film directed by Yuri Ilyenko. It was entered into the 7th Moscow International Film Festival and won the Golden Prize.

The Naked Island is a black-and-white film from 1960, directed by Kaneto Shindō. The film is notable for having almost no spoken dialogue.

Damiano Damiani Italian screenwriter, film director, actor and writer

Damiano Damiani was an Italian screenwriter, film director, actor and writer. Poet and director Pier Paolo Pasolini referred to him as "a bitter moralist hungry for old purity", while film critic Paolo Mereghetti said that his style made him "the most American of Italian directors".

Manuel Octavio Gómez was a prolific Cuban film director and writer. His 1971 film The Days of Water was entered into the 7th Moscow International Film Festival where it won the Prix FIPRESCI.

A Last Note is a 1995 Japanese film directed by Kaneto Shindo. It was chosen as Best Film at the Japan Academy Prize ceremony.

35th Berlin International Film Festival Film festival

The 35th annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from 15 to 26 February 1985. The Golden Bear was awarded to East German film Die Frau und der Fremde directed by Rainer Simon and British film Wetherby directed by David Hare. The retrospective was dedicated to Special effects.

Kindai Eiga Kyōkai is an independent film company of Japan. It was formed in 1950 by directors Kōzaburō Yoshimura and Kaneto Shindo and actor Taiji Tonoyama, and went on to produce most of Shindo's films, such as The Naked Island and Onibaba.

<i>Live Today, Die Tomorrow!</i>

Live Today, Die Tomorrow! is a 1970 Japanese drama film based on the true story of Norio Nagayama. It was directed by Kaneto Shindo based on his own screenplay, and starred Daijiro Harada and Nobuko Otowa.

The 2nd Moscow International Film Festival was held from 9 to 23 July 1961. The Grand Prix was shared between the Japanese film The Naked Island directed by Kaneto Shindo and the Soviet film Clear Skies directed by Grigori Chukhrai.

Yuri Ilyenko Soviet film director

Yuriy Illienko was a Soviet film director and screenwriter. He directed twelve films between 1965 and 2002. His 1970 film The White Bird Marked with Black was entered into the 7th Moscow International Film Festival where it won the Golden Prize.

The Days of Water is a 1971 Cuban drama film directed by Manuel Octavio Gómez. It was entered into the 7th Moscow International Film Festival, where it won a Special Prize, the Prix FIPRESCI and Idalia Anreus won the award for Best Actress.

The 8th Moscow International Film Festival was held from 10 to 23 July 1973. The Golden Prizes were awarded to the Soviet film That Sweet Word: Liberty! directed by Vytautas Žalakevičius and the Bulgarian film Affection directed by Ludmil Staikov.

The 10th Moscow International Film Festival was held 7-21 July 1977. The Golden Prizes were awarded to the Hungarian film The Fifth Seal directed by Zoltán Fábri, the Spanish film El puente directed by Juan Antonio Bardem and the Soviet film Mimino directed by Georgiy Daneliya.

The 13th Moscow International Film Festival was held from 7 to 21 July 1983. The Golden Prizes were awarded to the Moroccan-Guinea-Senegalese film Amok directed by Souheil Ben-Barka, the Nicaraguan-Cuban-Mexican-Costa Rican film Alsino and the Condor directed by Miguel Littín and the Soviet film Vassa directed by Gleb Panfilov.

The 21st Moscow International Film Festival was held from 19 to 29 July 1999. The Golden St. George was awarded to the Japanese film Will to Live directed by Kaneto Shindo.

The 25th Moscow International Film Festival was held from 20 to 29 June 2003. The Golden St. George was awarded to the Italian-Spanish film The End of a Mystery directed by Miguel Hermoso.
