9th Empyrean is the second studio album by Taiwanese black metal band Chthonic, released in 2000. [2] The album was originally only available in Taiwan, until it was re-released by Nightfall Records in English format in 2002. Both versions of the album are now out of print and is hard to find.

It is the only Chthonic album to feature two different (although similar) album covers upon its initial release.

Chthonic (band) Taiwanese musical group

Chthonic is a Taiwanese heavy metal band, formed in 1995 in Taipei. They have been called "the Black Sabbath of Asia." The group incorporates influences from traditional Taiwanese music, including adaptations of folk songs and the use of traditional instruments, most notably the erhu. Their stated goal is to use their music to bring ancient history and mythology into the modern era especially to build awareness of the myths of Taiwan and tragic events in that country's history.

The album was released in LP format by Fredmosa Records in 2002. This was the only album by the band that was never made in an alternative English version, however, English print does appear on certain areas of the artwork.
