Abdul Hameed Mohamed Fowzie (born 13 October 1937) is a Sri Lankan politician,a member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka and a former government minister. Fowzie was a parliament member from 1996. [1] He was a mayor of Colombo from the United National Party,and later joined the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
He was injured while walking with a crowd in the Akuressa suicide bombing. He joined the National Government of Sri Lanka led by the United National Party as the Minister of Disaster Management. He entered parliament from Samagi Jana Balawegaya in 2023,after Mujibur Rahman resigned to run for Colombo mayor. [2]
Sri Lankabhimanya Ranasinghe Premadasa was the third President of Sri Lanka from 2 January 1989 to his assassination in 1993. Before that,he served as the Prime minister of Sri Lanka from 6 February 1978 to 2 January 1989. Premadasa is considered as the longest serving uninterrupted Prime Minister of Sri Lanka by serving in that post for nearly 11 years. He was the first person conferred Sri Lanka's highest civilian award Sri Lankabhimanya in 1986 by President J. R. Jayewardene.

According to the Constitution of Sri Lanka the maximum legislative term of the parliament is 5 years from the first meeting.
Local elections have not been held in Sri Lanka since 2018. Elections were originally scheduled to be held in 2022,but were postponed to 2023 due to the worsening economic crisis and instability in the country,before being postponed again several times by the government of President Ranil Wickremesinghe. Currently,there is no official date scheduled for the elections.
