ASL Airlines Hungary Kft , formerly Farnair Hungary, was an airline based on the property of Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport in Budapest, Hungary. [1] It operated scheduled express cargo services, ad hoc charter services and relief missions. The airline ran a fleet of Boeing B737-400SF midrange freighter aircraft serving customers in the express parcel, mail and online trading sectors. [2] Its main base was Budapest Ferihegy International Airport. [3]

History

The airline was established and started operations in 1990. It was founded as NAWA Air Transport, the first privately owned airline in Hungary after World War II. In 1993 it was acquired by Farner Air Transport and was renamed Farner Air Transport Hungary. It became Farnair Hungary in 1997. It is wholly owned by Farnair Switzerland. [3]

ASL Airlines Hungary is part of the global Aviation Services Group ASL Aviation Holdings, based in Dublin, Ireland. The group consists of several companies, amongst them 8 airlines, maintenance facilities and several leasing companies.

The airline offers more than 120 flights per week on its European network, that spreads from Scandinavia to Romania, Italy, Greece, the United Kingdom and Ireland. [4]

On 4 June 2015, ASL Aviation Group, the parent company of Farnair Hungary, announced that Farnair Hungary will be rebranded as ASL Airlines Hungary. [5]

In 2021, without any further notice, the Hungarian brand of the airline was abolished, and its fleet was integrated into ASL Airlines Ireland. [1]

Malév joined the Oneworld alliance on 29 March 2007. On 3 February 2012, Malév ceased operations and on 14 February 2012 was declared insolvent by the Metropolitan Court of Budapest.

MIAT Mongolian Airlines is the national airline of Mongolia, headquartered in the MIAT Building in the country's capital of Ulaanbaatar. The airline operates international scheduled services from its base at Chinggis Khaan International Airport in Sergelen, near Ulaanbaatar.

It is by far the largest of the country's four commercial airports, ahead of Debrecen and Hévíz–Balaton. The airport is located 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) southeast of the center of Budapest and was renamed in 2011 in honour of the most famous Hungarian composer Franz Liszt on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his birth.

Smartwings Hungary Kft., formerly named Travel Service Hungary, is an airline based in Budapest, Hungary, operating charter flights out of Budapest Ferihegy International Airport. It was founded in 2001 and is a subsidiary of Smartwings from the Czech Republic.

ABC Air Hungary Ltd. was a cargo airline based at Budapest, Hungary. Its head office was located in Terminal 1 of Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport. Founded in 1998, the company operated daily cargo flights with LET-410-UVP-E, SAAB 340A, ATR-42, Airbus 300 and Boeing 737-300. The aircraft fleet consisted of three Let L-410 Turbolet in May 2010. It had also two SAAB 340A cargo variants. 2001 – the first long-term contract with DHL. 2003 – extension of the business with operation for TNT and UPS. Cargo charter flights for the biggest courier companies – DHL, UPS, FEDEX and TNT, based on direct contracts, or in co-operation with Bridges Worldwide.ABC operated also ad-hock charter flights. The airline is under reorganisation and planning to restart regular operations Q2/Q3 2017 using regional, narrow and wide body aircraft.

Sólyom Hungarian Airways Ltd. was a Hungarian airline start-up with its head office at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport. It was founded in 2013 after Malév Hungarian Airlines, the former flag carrier of Hungary, ceased operations in February 2012. It has never started operations.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">ASL Airlines Hungary Flight 7332</span> 2016 aviation accident

ASL Airlines Hungary Flight 7332 was a cargo flight operating for DHL from Paris–Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, to Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport, Italy. On 5 August 2016, the aircraft overran the runway while landing at Bergamo in poor weather and came to rest on a nearby road. The airport was closed for almost three hours after the crash, and flights were rescheduled or rerouted to Malpensa Airport. The two-person crew was not injured.
