Abbas Tyrewala (born 15 May 1974) is an Indian screenwriter, lyricist and director. [1] After making his mark as a screenwriter and dialogue writer in the early 2000s, with award-winning films such as Maqbool (2003) and Munnabhai M.B.B.S. (2003). He made his debut as a director in 2008 with the romantic comedy film Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na which became a critical and commercial hit and also featured an acclaimed soundtrack by A. R. Rahman.

Biography

Abbas Tyrewala was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra on 15 Mary 1974. He began working as a lyricist for the 2000 film Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!! and 2001 film Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega before writing dialogues for films starting with Asoka (2001). He made his directorial debut in 2008 with the comedy film Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na , starring Imran Khan. His second directorial was the 2010 film Jhootha Hi Sahi , starring John Abraham.

Jhootha Hi Sahi is the soundtrack to the 2010 Bollywood romantic comedy film of the same name, directed by Abbas Tyrewala starring John Abraham and Pakhi Tyrewala. The soundtrack, consisting of seven original tracks and two remix versions was composed by A. R. Rahman with lyrics penned by Abbas Tyrewala. The audio was officially released on 17 September by Sa Re Ga Ma at the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa competition. The album was very well received by the critics and was the chart topper for some weeks.

The Producers Guild Film Awards for Best Lyricist is given by the producers of the film and television guild as part of its annual award ceremony to recognise the best Indian film of the year. Following its inception in 2004, no one was awarded in 2005 and 2007.
