Abdulla Khaleel (born 12 February 1975) is a Maldivian politician who is Minister of Health. [1] He holds a PhD in Public Policy and wrote his thesis on Decentralizing Maldives in 2015. [2]
At first,Khaleel was an Assistant teacher at Faafu Atoll Education Centre in Nilandhoo (Faafu Atoll). He was responsible for teaching Financial Accounting and Economics for London GCE O level classes. From November 2004 to April 2005,he was a part-time lecturer at the International Islamic College,Malaysia. After that he was a part-time lecturer at Maldivian Academy for Professional Studies (MAPS) from January 2005 to May 2006. He was then a part-time lecturer at Villa College,Maldives from July to December 2010. Khaleel started serving the government in 1997,he has held senior positions in the Ministry of Finance. [1] He previously served as an MP for Nilandhoo Constituency from 2019 to 2023,as well as Secretary General of Civil Service Commission,and Secretary General at the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). While he served for the People's Majlis,he was the Chairman of Parliamentary Economic Affairs Committee. He had also served as the Atoll Chief of Alif Alif Atoll from May 2006 to May 2007 as well as the Atoll chief of Noonu Atoll from June 2007 to June 2008. Khaleel had also worked as an Assistant Supervisor at Maldives Ports Authority. [2] [3] [4]

The Maldives is southwest of Sri Lanka and India,about 750 kilometres from the Asian continent's mainland. Executive power is exercised by the government. The President heads the executive branch and appoints the Cabinet;like many presidential democracies,each member of the cabinet need to be approved by the Parliament. The President,along with their pick for vice president,is directly elected by the denizens to a five-year term by a secret ballot. Once in office,they could be re-elected to a second 5-year term,which is the limit allowed by the Constitution. The current President of the Maldives is Mohamed Muizzu,when his predecessor,Ibrahim Mohamed Solih lost the 2023 Maldivian presidential election.
Maumoon Abdul Gayoom,,NGIV,is a Maldivian politician who served as President of the Maldives from 1978 to 2008. After serving as transport minister,he was nominated president by the People's Majlis and succeeded Ibrahim Nasir in 1978. He was defeated in 2008 during the first Presidential Elections after democratic reforms in the Maldives. He holds the nations highest award,"The Most Honourable Order of Distinguished Rule of Ghaazee",presented to him in 2013. Maumoon was the longest-serving president in Asia.
Gnaviyani Atoll is one of the administrative divisions of the Maldives corresponding to the natural atoll,Fuvahmulah. Surfacewise this is the smallest administrative unit in the Maldives,situated on the Equatorial Channel between Huvadhu Atoll and Addu Atoll.
Nilandhoo is the capital of Faafu Atoll,a region with five inhabited islands. It is the largest and most populated island in the region,and includes historical sites such as foah'mathi and Aasaari Miskiy and a school. Foah'mathi is a historical site with a Buddhist temple under it,while Aasaari Miskiy is the second mosque built in the Maldives.
The Administrative Divisions of the Maldives refers to the various units of government that provide local government services in the Maldives. According to the Decentralization Act 2010,the administrative divisions of the Maldives would consist of atolls,islands,and cities;each administered by their own local council,under the basic terms of home rule. Geographically,the Maldives are formed by a number of natural atolls plus a few islands and isolated reefs which form a pattern from North to South. Administratively,there are currently 189 islands,18 atolls and 4 cities in the Maldives.
Ilyas Ibrahim is the brother-in-law of the former President of the Maldives Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom. He was a minister in Maumoon's cabinet for a long time and served as an MP for the capital city Maléfrom 1980 to 1995. He also served as the MP for Laamu Atoll,&a member of People's Special Majilis,from 2003 to 2008.
Ilyas Hussain Ibrahim is a Maldivian politician. He was an official in the Ministry of Atolls Development from 1990 to 2004,then a member of the Special Majilis (parliament) representing A.DH Atoll from 2004 to 2008. Between 2008 and 2013 he was Deputy Minister or Minister of State for Immigration and Emigration,Housing and Environment,and then Defense and National Security.
Abdulla Hameed was a Maldivian politician. He was the Minister of Atolls during the administration of his brother Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. Hameed was the Speaker of the Majlis from 1988 to 1990 and again from 1993 to 2004. He was a recipient of the Order of Distinguished Rule of Izzuddeen.

Parliamentary elections were held in the Maldives on 6 April 2019. The result was a landslide victory for the Maldivian Democratic Party,which won 65 of the 87 seats in the People's Majlis. This was the first time in Maldivian history that one party was able to secure a supermajority in parliament.
