Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards 2019, themed The Stars, was the seventh edition of the Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards (ASFAs) that honored stars in the fashion industry in Africa. It was held on 13 December 2019 at the Kampala Serena Hotel in Kampala. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

Headliners

The three major headline acts were by American rapper, singer-songwriter and record producer Jidenna, [6] British fashion designer Ozwald Boateng and South African fashion designer David Tlale. [7] Jidenna had also been previously confirmed to perform at the Blankets and Wine Festival in Kampala on 15 December the same year. [8]

Jidenna received the Icon Award and Boateng was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award for infusing a trademark twist on classic British tailoring and bespoke style. [9] Other honorary awards awarded that night were the Star Maker award awarded to Joram Muzira, Positive Change award to Susan Guerts and Special Recognition Award for Innovation awarded to Kayiira. History

Nominations were opened on 8 October 2019 [11] and closed later that month and the list of nominees was released at a Fashionpreneur Summit and nomination party on 26 October 2019 in Kampala. [12] [13] [14] [15] Public voting for the nominees was opened on 11 November and ran up to 10 December. Like all previous events, the public vote would carry 30% and the ASFAs' panel vote would carry 70%. [16] It was earlier announced that Jidenna and Ozwald Boateng would receive honorary awards of Star Icon Award and Lifetime Achievement Award respectively for their work in the fashion industry in Africa. Jidenna Theodore Mobisson, known mononymously as Jidenna, is an American rapper and singer. He signed with Janelle Monáe's record label Wondaland Arts Society, an imprint of Epic Records to release his debut single, "Classic Man" in 2015. The song peaked at number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100, received double platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and was followed up with the single "Yoga" that same year. Both of which preceded the release of Wondaland's debut compilation project, The Eephus (2015). Jidenna's debut studio album, The Chief (2017) peaked at number 38 on the Billboard 200. His second album, 85 to Africa (2019) explored Afrobeats.

Alex Julius Kwesigabo, better known by his stage name Flex D'Paper, is a Ugandan rapper and songwriter born and raised in Kampala. Starting off his music career, Flex D'Paper was part of the high school rap group, The Rapaholix, which he started with friends, Dasper Cosine and later joined by Apass as an affiliate with whom the trio put out a mix tape, The Eviction Notice that included chart topping singles like "Burning", "Party Life" and "Follow Me" which topped countdowns in Uganda such as NTV and Sanyu FM. Flex D'Paper was part of the 2014 UG Cypher including the finest Ugandan rappers: Navio, Keko, Big Tril, Don MC, AirporTaxi rappers St. Nelly Sade, GNL Zamba, DJ Global, JB, The Mith, Ruyonga, and Atlas.

Sheebah Karungi, professional also known as Queen Karma and Sheebah, is a Ugandan Musician, Dancer, Actress and Feminist activist. She debuted her acting career in Queen of Katwe as Shakira. After quitting Obsessions, a dance group she joined in 2006, she started making music and later rose to recognition upon the release of her hit single "Ice Cream". In 2014, she released her debut project Ice Cream, a five-track EP which did well commercially and led her to win back-to-back HiPipo Music Awards Best Female Artist in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. She also won the Artist of the Year award twice, in 2017, 2018, and 2019 at the HiPipo Music Awards.

Zziwa Kennedy Katebalirwe is a professional Ugandan celebrity hair stylist and dresser. He is the CEO of Hair by Zziwa, a hair studio in Uganda.

Housen Mushema is a Ugandan runway, commercial and editorial model, actor and fashion producer known for playing the lead role of Balikoowa in Balikoowa in the City, Sokke on The Hostel, Andrew on Second Chance, Ben Ssali on Power of Legacy, Ian on Mistakes Girls Do, Michael on Veronica's Wish, Anthony on Bed of Thorns and also had roles on other shows and films like November Tear, False Dreams and The Lukkas.

The Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards 2017 was held on 8 December 2017 at the Kampala Serena Hotel themed the Fashion Takeover, celebrating the business and entrepreneurial potential of the fashion industry in Africa. The awards were presented by the Abryanz franchise with the aim of honoring and celebrating the excellence of Africa's growing fashion industry. The event was hosted by Rachel K and Nana Akua and produced by South Africas's David Tlale.

Anita Beryl is a Ugandan Fashion Designer, Couturier and Entrepreneur. She is the creative director of Beryl Qouture, a Ugandan fashion house. The Ugandan magazine, Satisfashion Uganda, named Beryl one of "The 40 Movers and Shakers of 2016", in December 2016.

Alex Emix Muhangi, commonly known as Alex Muhangi, is a Ugandan comedian, actor sound engineer, director and host of the comedy show, Comedy Store Uganda. He was listed as one of the top 10 Ugandan comedians and personalities in 2016 and 2017 by New Vision and as one of the pioneers of standup comedy in the English language in Uganda.

The Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards 2016 is the fourth edition of the Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards and it was held on 9 December 2016 at the Kampala Serena Hotel under the theme Dress to Inspire. Vimbai Mutinhiri and Idris Sultan hosted the awarding event while Hellen Lukoma and Zimbabwe's Tinashe Venge hosted the red carpet event.

Santa Anzo is a Ugandan model, fashionista, fashion designer and businesswoman, who is the founder, chief fashion designer and managing director of Arapapa Fashion House, based in Kampala, Uganda's capital city. She is also the founder and President of Uganda International Fashion Week, an annual fashion exhibition.

Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards 2018 was held on 7 December 2018 and marked the sixth edition of the Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards (ASFAs).

Fun Factory Uganda is a Ugandan entertainment company based in Kampala. It was founded in 2010, with its flagship product being sketch comedy. It also has branched into television shows and event management. FFU's cast are trained at Makerere University School of Liberal and Performing Arts. Abbas Kaijuka is a Ugandan fashion designer, stylist and fashion collector known for his brand Kai's Divo. Kampala Boy is the first studio album by Ugandan musician Flex D'Paper, released on 10 December 2021. The album features guest appearances from Swae Lee on the intro and songs with Navio, Fik Fameica, A Pass, Keko, Shena skies, Wake the Poet, Mozelo Kidz, Kemishan, Lagum the rapper. The production includes Aethan Music, Mio Made, Sam Lamara, Wake the Poet, Bad Chwezi and Lucian.

Joram Muzira alias Muzira Joram Job(born in 1987) is a Ugandan Fashion entrepreneur, model scout and coach, show director, voice over artist, and a TV personality. He founded JMM that signed international models that include Aamito stacie Lagum and Patricia Akello.
