Adonis Jovon Filer (born July 11, 1993) is a Rwandan-American basketball player who currently plays for APR. He also plays for the Rwanda national basketball team in International competitions.

Early life

Born and raised in Chicago, Filer attended Mount Carmel High School before transferring to the Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond, Indiana. He later also attended Notre Dame Preparatory School in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. [2]

College career

Filer committed to the Clemson Tigers. In his rookie season, he averaged 10.0 points and 4.0 rebounds. [3] After two years, he transferred from Clemson to Florida Atlantic. [4]

Professional career

On September 14, 2017, Filer signed his first professional contract with Cypriot club Apollon Limassol. [5] He was released before playing any official game with the team.

Filer then signed a contract for the 2018–19 season, with Beroe of the Bulgarian National Basketball League (NBL). [6]

During the 2020–21 season, Filer played with the Patriots of the RNBL. After the season, his contract expired. [7] On June 8, 2021, Filer signed with REG. [7] On March 8, 2022, he set a new BAL record for most assists in a game after racking up 14 assists in a win over AS Salé. [8] The same season, he went on to win his second RBL title and was namemd to the All-RBL First Team a second year in a row.

In November 2022, Filer played with Urunani BBC in the Elite 16 of the 2023 BAL qualification. [9] He returned to REG for the 2023 main season. [10]

In October 2023, Filer joined APR, his third Rwandan club. [11] Filer played in the 2024 BAL season with APR. On May 11, 2024, he tore his achilles tendon which would keep him out for at least eight months. [12] Without Filer, APR went on to lose their final game and subsequently failed to qualify for the playoffs. [13]

National team career

Filer was selected for the Rwanda national basketball team in 2020 and made his debut during the AfroBasket 2021 qualification. [14]

The 2024 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 4, will be the 4th season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 9 March 2024 and will finish with the final on 1 June 2024, which will be played in the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda for a fourth consecutive season.

The 2023 RBL season was the second season of the Rwanda Basketball League under its current name, while the top-level competition has been organised by the FERWABA for a longer time. The season began on 12 January 2023 with the regular season. The playoffs will begin on 23 August and ended on 9 September 2023.

In the 2024 season for APR played internationally in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) and domestically in the Rwanda Basketball League (RBL). The team played in the BAL following their championship in the 2023 season, that ended a 14-year title drought for APR.

Odile Tetero is a Rwandan basketball player who plays for the Rwandan women's Basketball National Team. She was named the Most Valuable Player in the 2022/2023 Rwanda Basketball League (RBL) playoffs. She has earned recognition as one of the best point guards in Rwandan basketball.
