Aileen Getty is an American heiress and activist. She is a member of the Getty family, the granddaughter of J. Paul Getty. She co-founded the Climate Emergency Fund in 2019. The fund has distributed over $4 million to several environmental activist organizations including Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil. [1]

Early life

She is the daughter of John Paul Getty Jr.. Her brother Mark Getty is the co-founder of Getty Images. Her brother, John Paul Getty III was kidnapped and ransomed in 1973. [1]

She spent her childhood in Italy and attended boarding school in the United Kingdom. [1]

Activism

In 2019, Getty co-founded the Climate Emergency Fund. The fund has distributed over $4 million to several environmental activist organizations including Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil. [1] [2] [3] [4]

As of 2018, she has given $92,400 to campaigns and independent committees of Gavin Newsom. [5]

Personal life

Around 1981, she was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. [1] [6]

In 1981, she married Christopher Wilding, son of Elizabeth Taylor. [1] [7]

In 2023, Getty purchased Brad Pitt’s estate near Los Feliz for $33 million. [8]

Salamon is a leader of the Climate Emergency Fund, co-founder and leader of The Climate Mobilization, and leader of Climate Awakening. In 2014, she co-founded The Climate Mobilization. She is an advocate for an "all hands on deck" mobilization against climate change and has defended controversial tactics and unlawful activity of Just Stop Oil, which Climate Emergency Fund finances.

Impossible Rebellion was a series of nonviolent climate change protests in the United Kingdom organised by Extinction Rebellion (XR), from 23 August 2021 to 4 September 2021. The protests particularly targeted the City of London to raise awareness of the role of the financial sector in climate change. Protesters during the Impossible Rebellion demanded that the UK government cease new investments in the fossil fuel industry. XR also demand that the government declare a climate emergency, reach net zero carbon emissions by 2025 and create a citizens' assembly on climate change.

The Climate Emergency Fund (CEF) is a Los Angeles based nonprofit organization that supports climate change activist groups involved in civil disobedience. It was founded in 2019 by filmmaker Rory Kennedy and Getty family heiress Aileen Getty.
