Hegemony is the political,economic,and military predominance of one state over other states. Hegemony can be regional or global.
International Relations (IR) are the interactions among sovereign states. The scientific study of those interactions is called international studies,international politics,or international affairs. In a broader sense,it concerns all activities among states—such as war,diplomacy,trade,and foreign policy—as well as relations with and among other international actors,such as intergovernmental organizations (IGOs),international nongovernmental organizations (INGOs),international legal bodies,and multinational corporations (MNCs). Marlène Laruelle is a French historian,sociologist,and political scientist specializing on Eurasia and Europe. She is Research Professor and Director of the Institute for European,Russian and Eurasian Studies (IERES) at the George Washington University (GW). Laruelle is also a Co-Director of PONARS,Director of GW’s Central Asia Program,and Director of GW's Illiberalism Studies Program. She received her Ph.D. in history at the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Cultures (INALCO) and spent time as a post-doc in the area of political science at Sciences Po in Paris. She is Senior Associate Scholar at the Institut français des relations internationales (IFRI). Her particular focus of interest is post-Soviet political,social and cultural developments,especially ideologies and nationalism. She is the daughter of the French philosopher François Laruelle.
Agnia Grigas is a Lithuanian-born American political scientist and author writing on security and energy issues of Russia,Europe,and the Post-Soviet states. Grigas is known as the author of The New Geopolitics of Natural Gas,Beyond Crimea:The New Russian Empire and The Politics of Energy and Memory Between the Baltic States and Russia. Grigas holds a Doctorate in International Relations from the University of Oxford. She is a nonresident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council in Washington,DC.
