Career
After completing his education,Redmer founded Redmer Insurance &Investment Services. He was also the Marketing and public relations specialist for the Mather Companies. He was a trustee for the Council on Economic Education in Maryland.
Republican Party activities
Redmer was a member of the Republican State Central Committee for 9th District in Baltimore County from 1978 to 1982. He was the co-chair of Ronald Reagan's Presidential Campaign,8th District,in 1980. He served on the campaign staff for U.S. Representative Helen D. Bentley in 1980 and again in 1982. He was elected as a delegate for the 2nd Congressional District for the 1988 Republican National Convention.
House of Delegates
Redmer was first elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in January 1990 to represent District 8 in Baltimore County,which covers the greater Parkville area. During his tenure in the House of Delegates,Redmer served as Minority Leader from 2001 to 2003. [2] Additionally,he was a member of several committees,including:the Environmental Matters Committee from 1991 until 2003,the Special Joint Committee on Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program from 1995 to 1998,the Joint Legislative Task Force on Organ and Tissue Donations during 1997 and 1998,and the Joint Committee on Health Care Delivery and Financing from 1999 until 2003.
He served on the Legislative Policy Committee from 2001 to 2003,the Spending Affordability Committee from 2001 until 2003,the Rules and Executive Nominations Committee from 2002 to 2003,the Joint Committee on the Selection of the State Treasurer in 2002,and again in 2003,and finally the Health and Government Operations Committee.
Candidacy for Baltimore County Executive
Redmer was a candidate for County Executive of Baltimore County in the 2018 election. If elected,he would've been the first Republican County Executive in the heavily-Democratic county in 24 years. [1] He was endorsed by Gov. Hogan in the Republican primary. [5] Redmer stressed his close relationship to Maryland's Republican governor,saying "If you like Larry Hogan,I'm your guy". [1] His campaign advertising called for new schools and improved discipline in schools,while opposing low-income Section 8 housing. He opposed Baltimore County being a sanctuary jurisdiction for illegal immigrants. [6] Redmer pledged not to raise taxes and proposed consideration of a build-leaseback approach with private sector participation to finance the construction of replacements for three County high schools:Dulaney,Lansdowne,and Towson High School. Redmer was defeated by Democrat Johnny Olszewski in the general election. [7]
David R. Craig is an American Republican Party politician from the State of Maryland who unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for Governor of Maryland in 2014. He was appointed, and sworn in as Harford County Executive on July 7, 2005. Craig was elected in 2006 and re-elected in 2010. Craig previously served in the Maryland State Senate in 1995–99 representing Harford County and in 1990-94 in the Maryland House of Delegates. He was also elected Mayor of Havre de Grace from 1985 to 1989 and 2001 to 2005. David was a teacher and assistant principal in the Harford County Public School System for thirty-four years.
James Harkins is an American politician who served as Director of Maryland Environmental Services from 2005 until March 2016. He also is a former Harford County Executive and Delegate for District 35A. In December 2019, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan appointed Harkins to the University of Maryland Medical System board of directors.
David R. Brinkley is an American politician who served as the Secretary of Budget and Management for the U.S. state of Maryland from 2015 to 2023.
Tony O'Donnell is an American politician, who represented District 29C in the Maryland House of Delegates. In 2016, Governor Larry Hogan appointed him to the Maryland Public Service Commission.
Patrick L. McDonough is an American politician. He was previously a Republican member of the Maryland House of Delegates and a candidate for County Executive of Baltimore County, Maryland, in the 2018 and 2022 elections. He represented District 7, which covers Baltimore and Harford Counties, along with fellow Republicans J.B. Jennings and Richard K Impallaria. He also served in the House from 1979 to 1983 as a Democrat.
Joseph C. Boteler III is an American politician who was elected in 2002 to represent District 8 of the Maryland House of Delegates in Baltimore County along with Alfred W. Redmer Jr. and Eric Bromwell. Alfred W. Redmer Jr. resigned in 2003 to accept an appointment as Maryland Insurance Commissioner and was replaced by John Cluster. In 2006, he won again along with Eric M. Bromwell and Todd Schuler.
Gail Bates was a member of the Maryland Senate from 2015 to 2019 and a member of the Maryland House of Delegates from 2002 to 2015. She was selected to replace Robert Kittleman in the Maryland House of Delegates in February 2002 when Kittleman was selected to replace Chris McCabe in the Maryland State Senate. In a close election in 2018, Bates was defeated by non-profit executive Katie Fry Hester by 1.7 percentage points. Bates was nominated to serve on the state Board of Education by Gov. Larry Hogan in February 2019.
John Anthony Olszewski Jr. is an American politician and the current Baltimore County Executive. He previously served two terms in the Maryland House of Delegates representing District 6.
Eric M. Bromwell is an American politician from Maryland and a member of the Democratic Party. Bromwell represented district 8 in the Maryland House of Delegates from January 2003 to September 2019. In September 2019 he resigned from the Maryland House of Delegates to serve as opioid strategy coordinator for Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski.

Patrick Nicholas Hogan is an American politician and academic administrator who served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates for District 3A from 2003 to 2007 and again from 2011 to 2015. He is son of former congressman Lawrence Hogan and the younger half-brother of the 62nd Governor of Maryland, Larry Hogan.
Charles A. McClenahan was a member of the Maryland House of Delegates for District 38, which covers Somerset, Wicomico, & Worcester Counties.
James F. Ports Jr. was a member of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing District 8, which covered portions of Baltimore & Baltimore City in Maryland. He served alongside Democrat Katherine A. Klausmeier and Republican Alfred W. Redmer Jr. In 2002, Ports decided against running for reelection in the House of Delegates and decided instead to run for Baltimore County Council. He won the Republican primary election, but lost in the general election to Vincent J. Gardina.

He was a member of the Maryland Senate from District 2, which covers parts of Washington County, from February 2015 to August 2020. He was also a member of the Maryland House of Delegates from District 2A from March 2008 to February 2015.
John S. Arnick was an American politician from Maryland and a member of the Democratic Party. He served in three separate spans of time as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing Maryland's District 6 and District 7 in Baltimore County. He died in 2006 due to lung cancer.
