Ali Caldwell (born June 28, 1988) is an American singer from Woodbridge, New Jersey. She is best known for her appearances on the television competition series The Voice (season 11) and The Four: Battle for Stardom (season 2), as well as for her work as an independent recording artist. Known for her powerful vocal range and emotionally driven performances, Caldwell has toured internationally both as a headlining artist and as a supporting vocalist for major recording artists.
Following her television appearances, Caldwell continued to build an independent career, releasing original music and performing across the United States and internationally. She has toured with artists including Christina Aguilera and Usher and has performed in multiple countries under her own name.
Ali Caldwell was born on June 28, 1988, in Woodbridge, New Jersey. She began singing at an early age and was influenced by artists such as Brandy, Celine Dion, and Faith Evans. After graduating from high school, Caldwell chose not to attend college, instead pursuing a professional music career.
She initially gained industry experience as a member of Xhale, a three-person R&B group. The group opened for Boyz II Men on tour and performed at a tribute concert honoring Patti LaBelle. Despite meetings with several record labels, Xhale was unable to secure a recording contract and disbanded in 2010. [citation needed]
After the dissolution of Xhale, Caldwell relocated to New York City to continue her career as a solo artist. She became a regular performer at venues throughout the city, including Drom, Milk River, and the Village Underground. One notable early moment in her solo career occurred when filmmaker and comedian Tyler Perry attended one of her performances and publicly praised her on social media, drawing increased attention to her work. [citation needed]
In 2014, Caldwell toured internationally, performing more than 40 shows in Russia. She later provided supporting vocals for Christina Aguilera during Aguilera’s performance at the Mawazine Festival in Morocco, one of the largest music festivals in the world. Caldwell has since headlined multiple multi-city tours across Europe and has performed in at least eight countries under her own name. [citation needed]
As an independent artist, Caldwell released the EP Heart of Ballads in 2015 via 2MaroMusic™/2MaroMedia Inc., an imprint she co-owns with her manager, Omar “O2” White. [4]
In 2016, Caldwell auditioned for season 11 of The Voice, receiving a four-chair turn during her blind audition after performing “Dangerous Woman” by Ariana Grande. She selected Miley Cyrus as her coach and advanced to the semi-finals. Throughout the season, she was widely regarded as a front-runner. [5][6] Her performances, including renditions of Leonard Cohen’s “Did I Ever Love You,” Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You,” and Rihanna’s “Sledgehammer,” received critical acclaim. [7][8]
Following her elimination, Caldwell’s recording of “I Will Always Love You” peaked at No. 6 on the Nielsen SoundScan R&B Genre Chart and No. 20 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart. [9]
In January 2018, Caldwell released the single “To Be Loved,” her first commercial release following The Voice. Later that year, she appeared as a contestant on season 2 of The Four: Battle for Stardom, advancing to the penultimate episode. Her elimination generated controversy among viewers, particularly following her performance of Mariah Carey’s “My All.” [citation needed]
Caldwell released her debut studio album, 88, in early 2020 via 2MaroMusic™/2MaroMedia Inc. The album featured songs such as “Colors,” “In My Head,” and “Stuck,” drawing from personal themes of heartbreak, healing, and resilience. Since its release, Caldwell has continued to tour internationally and perform at festivals and concert venues in the United States and abroad.
