Amaia Zubiria

Amaia Zubiria (born 1947) is a Spanish-Basque singer who was born in Usurbil in the Basque province of Gipuzkoa. She started singing with Txomin Artola with whom she formed the Haizea band. She toured the Basque Country, singing adaptations of the local folk songs. She has recorded several albums since 1985, some with other singers such as Pascal Gaigne, some as a soloist. [1] [2]

In 1993, she began singing solo with Amonaren Mengantza which she sang at Mexico's Durango Festival in 1995. Together with Gaigne, Luis Camio and José Angel Lorán, she sang Sustrai zahar and Kimu berri based on her research into Basque folklore. [1]

For soundtrack of the film La fuga de Segovia (1981) she sang Maite zaitut Maite. She went on to contribute to the films Zergatik Panpox (1986), Ander eta Yul (1989), Loraldia (1991) and Santa Cruz, el cura guerrillero (1991). [1] [3] She has also collaborated with the artists Angel Illarmendi, Julia León, Josean Goikoetxea and Iñaki Salvador. Her voice can also be heard in the animated film La isla del cangrejo and in Yoyes , both of which received awards. [1]

In 2001, Zubiria was a member of the jury for the Basque Singers' Championship. Her album Haatik (2002) presents highlights from her career together with six new tracks. [1]

Now considered one of the Basque Country's most successful stars, Amaia Zubiria has continued to present her songs at concerts. [4]

Josefa Embil Echániz better known as Pepita Embil was a Spanish Basque soprano who starred in zarzuela and operetta productions throughout Spain and Latin America. Known as the "Queen of Zarzuela," she is especially remembered for her son, the internationally famous operatic tenor Plácido Domingo, whose early career she helped to nurture. Embil began her professional career singing as a soloist in choirs, including the Basque national choir, Eresoinka, which based itself in France during the Spanish Civil War. While still in her twenties, she appeared in the world premieres of several new zarzuelas. She collaborated with some of the most prominent Spanish composers of the 1940s, including Federico Moreno Torroba, Jacinto Guerrero, and Pablo Sorozábal. In late 1948, she moved to Mexico with her baritone husband, Plácido Domingo Ferrer. In Mexico they ran a successful zarzuela company of their own, which toured throughout the Americas. Over the course of her career, Embil made several recordings, primarily of zarzuela music.

Pero No Pasa Nada is the debut studio album by Spanish singer and songwriter Amaia. The album was released through Universal Music Spain on September 20, 2019. The 10-track album is an ode to a person's twenties. The album is produced by Santiago Motorizado, Nuria Graham and the singer herself. Three singles have been extracted from the album; "El Relámpago", "Quedará en Nuestra Mente" and "Quiero Que Vengas", released in May, August and September 2019, respectively. A promotional single "Nadie Podría Hacerlo" was released on June 21, 2019. The album debuted atop the Spanish PROMUSICAE albums chart.

Maite Arruabarrena Unanue is a Spanish-Basque mezzo-soprano opera singer and psychologist. Born in San Sebastián, she studied in Spain and in Italy where she won first prize at the Toti dal Monte International Singing Contest. In addition to singing in Spain's leading theatres and concert halls, she has performed in Austria, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and the United States.

Presunto culpable is a Spanish mystery thriller television series starring Miguel Ángel Muñoz. Produced by Atresmedia Televisión in collaboration with Boomerang TV, it aired on Antena 3 in 2018.
