Anambra International Cargo Airport Umuleri is an international airport in Nigeria. It is situated at Ivite-Umueri in Umuleri, Anambra State. [1]

History

The project to build the airport was officially launched by the Anambra State government on April 11, 2017, with construction finishing three years later. The airport was then inaugurated by Anambra State’s Governor Willie Obiano on October 30, 2021. [2]

On December 2, 2021, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority issued the Anambra State Government the authority to open the airport for commercial operations, [3] [4] after which the airport began commercial operations on December 7, 2021. In its first month of operations it had recorded 142 flights carrying a total of 3,865 passengers. [5]

In March 2022, a Ziegler fire truck was delivered to the airport. [6]

On October 1, 2023, the airport was renamed after Chinua Achebe, a literary icon who was a notable author, poet and critic from Anambra State and whose first novel, Things Fall Apart is globally acclaimed. Presently, the airport is known as Chinua Achebe International Airport, Umueri. [7] [8]

The airport located at Umueri, in Anambra East LGA of Anambra state, serves a lot of the neighboring states because it is a cargo airport, also. The roads that leads to the airport is motorable. Two airlines are currently functional here: Air Peace and United Nigeria Airlines. [5]

Otuocha is a populated town in Nigeria and serves as the capital of Anambra East, a local government area of Anambra State, Nigeria. It was previously a divisional headquarters of the Anambra Divisional Council during the First Republic of Nigeria (1963–1966). Otuocha was located on the northern side of Biafra, a short-lived nation, and was one of the food baskets of the nation due to its large market during the Nigerian Civil War. Zipair, legally Zipair Tokyo Inc., is a Japanese low-cost airline headquartered on the grounds of Narita International Airport in Narita, Chiba.
