Andrew Gara (born 15 August 1878; date of death unknown) was an Irish footballer who played as a forward. [2]

Club career

Gara joined Wigan County on the foundation of the club in 1897, [3] scoring against Nelson in the FA Cup in October of the same year. [4]

After impressing in a friendly match against Preston North End Gara joined Preston for a reported fee [3] of £100, where he averaged close to a goal every other game, top scoring in the 1900–01 season with 11 goals, despite Preston's relegation that season. [2] Gara would then have a short spell with Nottingham Forest, making 6 appearances and scoring once on his home debut against Aston Villa. [5]

He would then join Second division Bristol City, where he scored 6 goals in 18 games, [2] before returning to the Lancashire Combination league with Earlestown, who would be promoted [6] at the end of his season with the club. He would remain in the Lancashire Combination for the remainder of his playing career, with three spells at Ashton Town as well as time with Southport Central and Eccles Borough, before retiring in 1908.

International career

Gara was selected for Ireland during the 1901-02 British Home Championship, scoring three goals on his debut against Wales. One of Gara's international shirts is in the collection of the National Football Museum [7]

David Frank Llwyd Jones is an English professional football coach and former player who is currently a coach at Welsh club Wrexham. Jones began his playing career at Manchester United, but struggled to get into the first team and spent loan spells at Preston North End, NEC and Derby County, before joining Derby on a permanent basis in 2007. However, he left Derby after just one season to join Wolverhampton Wanderers. He spent three years with Wolves before joining Wigan Athletic. At the end of his second season there, he went on a brief loan spell with Blackburn Rovers, before joining Burnley. After three years with Burnley, he left for Sheffield Wednesday, where he spent another three years before being released at the end of the 2018–19 season. In June 2022, he retired from football to become a coach full-time at Wrexham.

Charles Sagar was an English footballer. Born in Edgworth, Lancashire, he played in The Football League for Bury and Manchester United at the turn of the 20th century. He also played twice for the England national team,

Ross Wallace is a Scottish former professional footballer who played as a winger. He has previously played for Celtic, Sunderland, Preston North End, Burnley, Sheffield Wednesday, Fleetwood Town, and once played in a full international match for Scotland. Peter Joseph Corr was an Irish footballer. Corr played as an outside-right for, among others, Everton and Ireland. In 1949 he was a member of the Ireland team that defeated England 2–0 at Goodison Park, becoming the first non-UK team to beat England at home. He was the uncle of Jim, Sharon, Caroline and Andrea Corr who make up the Irish musical group The Corrs. His brother Gerry is their father. After a three-year-long battle with Alzheimer's disease, Corr died in a nursing home in Goosnargh in June 2001, aged 77.
