Andy Juett (born October 24, 1977) is an American actor, stand-up comedian, writer, producer, host, and comedy event director in Denver, Colorado. He is a partner in Sexpot Comedy and was one of the co-founders of High Plains Comedy Festival.

Early life and education

Originally from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Juett graduated from Brother Rice High School, where he attended alongside fellow comedian and future collaborator Eugene Cordero. [1] Juett briefly attended Boston College before graduating from Michigan State University with a degree in advertising.

Career

Radio

Juett spent more than 14 years in the radio industry, [2] working as an Account Executive at Liggett Broadcasting in Lansing, Michigan and Citadel in Colorado Springs, moving into sales management positions at Max Radio, CBS Radio, Wilks Broadcasting, and Clear Channel Radio in Denver and ultimately serving as Sales Manager at Lincoln Financial Media's Comedy 103.1 from September 2013 through June 2014. Producing

Juett is a prolific producer of comedy content including live comedy shows, web videos, and an Amazon.com sitcom pilot. [2]

In addition to co-owning Sexpot Comedy, Juett has produced events in the past such as High Plains Comedy Festival (see below), The Grapes of Rad Comedy Show (a former monthly comedy show at Englewood’s Gothic Theatre produced in collaboration with Adam Cayton-Holland, Andrew Orvedahl, and Ben Roy of The Grawlix comedy trio) [4] and The Grawlix's monthly show at the Bug Theatre. He joined with filmmaking team The Nix Brothers to produce comedian T.J. Miller’s music video “Denver” (a track off of Miller's "Extended Play E.P.”).

Juett also teamed up with The Grawlix and The Nix Brothers to produce an Amazon sitcom pilot in June 2012 called Those Who Can't, about three inept Denver high school teachers. It starred The Grawlix in the three main roles, along with Rory Scovel, Kyle Kinane, and Nikki Glaser. [5]

Comedy Performances

Juett regularly performs stand-up in Denver showcases and events and was accepted into Crom Comedy Festival in Omaha [6] and the Comedy Exposition of 2014 in Chicago. [7]

In 2012, Juett, Orvedahl and Robert Rutherford formed Mouthstepperz, an a cappella dubstep team (Juett's “Clownmouth” was the “lead singer”). They performed at SXSW in 2013 [8] and made an appearance at the 2013 High Plains Comedy Festival. Juett has also appeared in numerous videos featured on Funny or Die including multiple episodes of the Grawlix/Nix Bros. web series and fake commercials for Omaha's Crom Comedy Fest. [9] He starred in a web series called Glenn Has Ideas which featured special guests including Adam Cayton-Holland, Rory Scovel, Sean Patton, Emily Heller, Dan Soder, Chris Fairbanks and Hannah Duggan. Sexpot Comedy

Juett is a producing partner in Sexpot Comedy. Originally conceived as a private comedy showcase by Denver entrepreneur Kayvan S.T. Khalatbari, Sexpot served as a comedy collective, producing or sponsoring four podcasts and a dozen weekly or monthly live events. [10] Among these was the main monthly Sexpot Comedy show, held at Denver's historic Oriental Theater, which Juett produced. Combining national headliners (including Rory Scovel, Sean Patton, Nikki Glaser and Andy Kindler) with local talent (Comedy Works New Faces winner Jordan Doll as host), [11] the show regularly included free pizza coupons from Khalatbari's Sexy Pizza, and was “semi-pot-friendly” due to its tie with Khalatbari's former marijuana dispensary, Denver Relief. [12] The combination of these businesses is where Sexpot's name originated. [13]

Juett also oversaw SexpotComedy.com, which launched in 2014, publishing original content in the form of comedy podcasts, videos, and literature, similar to Nerdist Industries or Earwolf. [13] At the time, it featured a comprehensive calendar of Denver's ever-expanding lineup of comedy events.

In 2018, Sexpot hosted the Denver premiere of the film Super Troopers 2 , which featured special appearances by cast members Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, and Paul Soter. The event was a tribute to the film's connection to Sexpot Comedy, as Juett and Khalatbari "kept the production afloat during a troublesome shoot." [14]

High Plains Comedy Festival

In 2013, Juett partnered with Denver comedian/writer Adam Cayton-Holland to launch the High Plains Comedy Festival. Juett parted ways with the festival in 2015, after its third year. [15]

Personal life

Juett has two children: a daughter and a son and currently resides in Parker, Colorado.

Cayton-Holland is also a writer who has been published in numerous regional and national publications; his first book, Tragedy Plus Time: A Tragi-Comic Memoir, received the 2019 Colorado Book Award for Creative Non-Fiction. He is the founder and executive director of High Plains Comedy Festival. As a comic, he is a regular headliner at clubs and colleges throughout the United States and abroad.

The Nix brothers

Evan Nix and Adam Nix, known together professionally as the Nix Bros., are American film directors, producers, and musicians. They are most well known for filming the series The Grawlix on Funny Or Die, a weekly comedy show featuring regular appearances by comedians Adam Cayton-Holland, Ben Roy, and Andrew Orvedahl, and for directing an episode of Paul Feig's 2015 comedy series Other Space. The two are also known as the founding members of the synthpop comedy band Total Ghost, a group for which they won best music video at the Festivus film festival in Denver, Colorado. The Nix Bros. later directed the Festivus spinoff Laugh Track Comedy Festival in 2011 and 2012.

Rory Scovel American comedian and actor

Rory J. Scovel is an American comedian, writer and actor from Greenville, South Carolina. He released his first stand-up album, Dilation, in 2011. He has since released two hour-long stand-up specials, Rory Scovel: The Charleston Special in 2015 and Rory Scovel Tries Stand-Up for the First Time in 2017 on Netflix and one 75 minutes long special Live Without Fear in 2021 on YouTube. Outside of stand-up comedy, he is known for acting in the TruTV show Those Who Can't and in the 2018 movie I Feel Pretty, as well as writing for The Eric Andre Show.

Andrew Orvedahl American comedian (born 1976)

Andrew Orvedahl is an American comedian best known for his work with The Grawlix, a comedy trio consisting of Orvedahl, Adam Cayton-Holland and Ben Roy, and the TruTV scripted comedy television show Those Who Can't. As a member of The Grawlix, Orvedahl has starred in a series of Funny or Die video releases written and directed by The Nix Bros and the Grawlix Saves The World, a podcast on the Starburns Audio Network.

Ben Roy

Ben Roy is an American comedian and musician originally from Winthrop, Maine, who now lives in Denver, Colorado. Heavily tattooed, and known for his "spittle-flecked rants" on stage, Roy has been compared to Bill Hicks and Lewis Black. Roy is a member of The Grawlix, a trio of Denver comedians who produce a monthly live comedy show and web series. He stars on the TruTV show Those Who Can't. He is also a singer who has fronted several Denver-area punk rock bands.

High Plains Comedy Festival

High Plains Comedy Festival is a comedy festival held each August in Denver, Colorado. It was founded in 2013 by Denver comedian/writer Adam Cayton-Holland and comedian/producer Andy Juett. The festival features a mix of local and national comics in venues throughout Denver's Baker neighborhood. Starting in 2016, Juett parted ways with the festival and Karen Wachtel became executive producer. As of 2019, the production team includes Cayton-Holland, Wachtel, Jessi Whitten, Ron Doyle, Carlos Madrid, and Will Hancock.

Sexpot Comedy

Sexpot Comedy is a comedy collective, producing or sponsoring nine podcasts and more than a dozen weekly or monthly live events in Denver, Colorado. It is run by partners Kayvan Soorena Tyler Khalatbari-Limaki, a local entrepreneur, and Andy Juett, a local comedian and producer.

Those Who Can't is an American cable television series that premiered February 11, 2016 on truTV. On December 1, 2015, the show was renewed for a second season before the first season aired. The pre-launch renewal is a first for the cable net, which ordered 12 episodes for the second season. On January 5, 2017, truTV renewed the series for a third season of 13 episodes, which began airing on January 14, 2019. The series was canceled on April 24, 2019. On December 1, 2020, all three seasons of Those Who Can't became available for viewing on the streaming service HBO Max.

Eugene Cordero is an American actor, writer, and comedian. Frequently appearing in comedic roles, he has been featured as a series regular on the comedies Other Space (2015), Bajillion Dollar Propertie$ (2017–2019), Tacoma FD (2019–present), and Star Trek: Lower Decks (2020–present). His television appearances also include recurring roles on House of Lies (2014), Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2015–2017), The Good Place (2016–2020), and Wrecked (2018). Outside of comedy, he has been a series regular on the Disney+ superhero series Loki since 2021. Cordero's film roles include the comedy-drama The Kings of Summer (2013), the monster adventure Kong: Skull Island (2017), and the crime drama The Mule (2018).

The Narrators is a monthly true storytelling show and podcast from Denver, Colorado, hosted by Ron S. Doyle and Buntport Theater's Erin Rollman, and founded in 2010 by standup comedian Andrew Orvedahl.
