Animation Nation

Animation Nation is an annual film festival in Singapore featuring animation feature films, short films, seminars and workshops. The festival was created by the Singapore Film Society in 2004 and took place every year until 2011. The latest edition was held from 21 to 22 November 2022. [1]

Contents

Besides films from around the world, the festival also screens local animation works in a programme called Singapore Showcase. [2] This is to promote talents in Singapore and bring awareness to the public.

Animation Nation stopped in 2012 and returned in 2016. [3]

The 5th Animation Nation festival was held from 24 October to 2 November 2008 at Alliance Française de Singapour and the National Museum of Singapore's Gallery Theatre. Other venues include the Fusionopolis and the library@esplanade.

The story revolves around an up-and-coming pilot, Hajime Shinkai, and portrays his interactions with others as he progresses along the road to becoming a captain. As is common in many Japanese drama series, it blends drama and romance with comedic elements. This drama also emphasizes hardship of being a pilot or a cabin crew, and the serious nature of the industry they're in, which puts thousands of lives in its hands.

The Japanese Film Festival (JFF) is a film festival held in Singapore and dedicated to Japanese cinema. It was first held in 1983 and then held annually from 1999 to 2016, and curated with Singapore audiences in mind, led by local programmers with a wide-ranging programme of film classics, Japanese independents and commercial releases. There was no festival in 2017. Under new direction from 2018 from the Japan Foundation in Tokyo, it has shifted its focus to screening mainly commercial releases from Japan.

Dareka no Manazashi is a slightly futuristic story about the maturation of a recently independent young woman and her changing relationship with her father.
