Anja Daems (born 26 May 1968) is a Belgian radio presenter and television host.

Biography

Daems spent her childhood in Geel. [1] She studied at the Conservatory in Antwerp. [2] During her last year of study she started working as a reporter at Radio 2. Later she presented on Radio 2, among others, Schijfje citroen and Soes. For several years she was the presenter at the television channel Eén of, among others, programs Open op zondag, Herexamen and De Notenclub . [3] [4] In 1999 she briefly said goodbye to radio. Since 2007 [5] she has been presenting De Madammen on Radio 2 with Cathérine Vandoorne [6] and Siska Schoeters [7] (formerly Britt Van Marsenille, Leki and Ilse Van Hoecke), [8] [9] which also airs on Eén. [10] After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic she presented Beste beuren, reporting stories of solidarity from allover the country during the difficult times of the pandemic. [11] [12]

Daems developed a strong friendship with Catherine Vandoorne, her close friend since the 1980s, [13] with whom she also worked at De Madammen. [13] In November 2008 she gave birth to a daughter, Anna Julia. [14] [15]

The manhunt for Jürgen Conings began on 18 May 2021, after the discovery that Conings, a Belgian soldier under suspicion of far-right extremism, had taken several weapons from military barracks in Leopoldsburg the previous day and farewell letters were found containing violent threats directed at the Belgian government and virologists. On 20 June 2021, Belgian media reported that a body had been found in the Dilserbos forest, which was later confirmed by the Federal Prosecutor's Office to be the body of Jürgen Conings. One day later, the Federal Prosecutor's Office confirmed that Conings died of suicide by gunshot, which was disputed by his family. A second autopsy was denied and he was cremated a few days later.
