Anne Meskanen

Anne Meskanen is a Finnish diplomat. She is the Finnish Ambassador to Kabul, Afghanistan and has been in charge since 1 September 2015. [1] [2] The mission was closed in March 2017 when a terrorist attack took place nearby. [3]

Meskanen has worked in Finland at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' General Global Affairs Unit. [4]

Biography

Meskanen earned a master's degree in political science from the University of Helsinki before working as a journalist and foreign correspondent for the Demari Newspaper . [5]

The foreign relations of Finland are the responsibility of the president of Finland, who leads foreign policy in cooperation with the government. Implicitly the government is responsible for internal policy and decision making in the European Union. He was Director General of the Protocol Department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs 1988–1990 and the Ambassador in Copenhagen 1990–1995 and in 1995–1998 in Luxembourg, and later as the Head of Protocol of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Kirsti Eskelinen-Liukkonen was an Ambassador of Finland to Ankara from 2008 to 2012. She was the Finnish Ambassador to Latvia in Riga from 2000 to 2004 and after that she was head of the Eastern Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until 2008. She started with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1973.

Eero Olavi Yrjölä was a Finnish diplomat and Master in Law. He was Director General of the Department of Administrative Affairs at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs from 1983 to 1985 and Ambassador in Prague from 1985 to 1990. Yrjölä died on 10 September 2010, at the age of 85.

Unto Juhani Turunen is a Finnish diplomat and Master in Law. He has held key positions including: Head of the Foreign Office from 1980 to 1983, Ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 1983 to 1987, as Ambassador to Poland from 1988 to 1991, as Foreign Affairs Counselor in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs from 1991 to 1993, Head of the Trade Policy Department from 1993 to 1995 and as chief executive officer from 1995 to 1996, as Ambassador to South Korea from 1996 to 2000 and in Malaysia from 2000 to 2004.

Seija Toro is a Finnish diplomat and Counsellor for Foreign Affairs. Toro holds a Master of Arts degree. From September 1, 2016, she has been a Roving Ambassador at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs for Mali, Niger, Ivory Coast and Senegal., as well as the Special Representative on Sahel. Before that she was the Ambassador of Finland to Maputo, Mozambique, from 1 November 2013. She started working with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1989.
