Anoka was laid out in 1902. [5] The village was named after Anoka, Minnesota. [6]

Anoka is in Boyd County Schools, [11] established in June 2017. [12]

Anoka was formerly in West Boyd Public Schools, [13] which was established in a merger in July 2007. [14]
