Antti Samuli Kaikkonen (born 14 February 1974 in Turku,Finland) is a Finnish politician of the Centre Party. He has been a member of the Finnish Parliament from Uusimaa since 2003. He served as Minister of Defence from 2019 to 2023. Kaikkonen was the president of Finnish Centre Youth from 1997 to 2001. He has also been a member of Finnish Delegation to the Council of Europe since 2004. [1]
In 2013,Kaikkonen was convicted of corruption charges stemming from a campaign financing scandal. [2]
On 21 June 2016,Kaikkonen was chosen as the chairman of the Centre Party's parliamentary group. [3]
By 2019,Kaikkonen was parliamentary head of the coalition-leading Centre Party. Amidst the Oulu child sexual exploitation scandal,he called for all party heads in Parliament to meet,and declared "everyone who comes to Finland has to follow the local laws". [4]
In the autumn of 2009,Kaikkonen received his share of the campaign finance. At that time,it was brought to public,that the Youth Foundation,of which Kaikkonen had been the chairman of the board since 2003,had distributed election support money to Kaikkonen,in municipal-,parliamentary-,and European Parliament -elections. In addition,it had also financed Matti Vanhanen's presidential election campaign,among other things. [5] Kaikkonen resigned from the chairman's place,and then stayed as a member of the board. [6]
The prosecutor demanded Kaikkonen's imprisonment in the Youth Foundation bribery trial,that began on 16 January 2012. In January 2013,the Helsinki District Court sentenced Kaikkonen to five months in conditional discharge for abuse of trust. [7] He did not appeal his verdict. [8]
Kaikkonen has two children;Kaikkonen announced that he would take parental leave in early 2023. [9]

Matti Taneli Vanhanen is a Finnish politician who served as Prime Minister of Finland from 2003 to 2010. He was also Chairman of the Centre Party in 2006. In his earlier career,he was a journalist. Vanhanen is the son of professor Tatu Vanhanen and Anni Tiihonen.
The Finns Party,formerly known as the True Finns,is a right-wing populist political party in Finland. It was founded in 1995 following the dissolution of the Finnish Rural Party. The party is currently a participant in the Government of Petteri Orpo,holding seven ministerial portfolios. The party achieved its electoral breakthrough in the 2011 Finnish parliamentary election,when it won 19.1% of votes,becoming the third largest party in the Parliament of Finland. In the 2015 election the party got 17.7% of the votes,making it the parliament's second-largest political party. The party was in opposition for the first 20 years of its existence. In 2015,it joined the coalition government formed by Prime Minister Juha Sipilä. Following a 2017 split,over half of the party's MPs left the parliamentary group and were subsequently expelled from their party membership. This defector group,Blue Reform,continued to support the government coalition,while the Finns Party went into opposition. The party,having been reduced to 17 seats after the split,increased its representation to 39 seats in the 2019 Finnish parliamentary election,while Blue Reform failed to win any seats. During the 2023 Finnish parliamentary election,the Finns Party finished in second place with 46 seats,recording their strongest result since the its founding. They then,out of Petteri Orpo’s request,proceeded to form a coalition government with the winning National Coalition Party,the Christian Democrats and Swedish People's Party of Finland.
Jussi Niinistö is a Finnish politician and a former Minister of Defence and a former member of Finnish Parliament,representing the Finns Party 2011–2017 and Blue Reform since 2017. By occupation he is a military historian,a docent of Finnish history in the University of Helsinki and a docent of military history in the Finnish National Defence University. In 2013 he was elected as the first vice-chairman of the True Finns,but lost his seat in 2017.
The Social Democratic Party of Finland is a social democratic and pro-European political party in Finland. It is the third largest party in the Parliament of Finland with 43 seats. Founded in 1899 as the Workers' Party of Finland,the SDP is Finland's oldest active political party and has a close relationship with the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions. He led the Social Democratic Party from 2014 until 2020. In August 2023,he was hired as the General Secretary of SAMAK for a three-year term.

The HX Fighter Program is a fighter jet procurement program of the Finnish Ministry of Defence,aiming to acquire multirole fighters for Finland to replace the current Hornet fighters. If completed,the acquisition will be the most expensive state purchase ever made by Finland. The project started in autumn 2015 and the Government decided to procure 64 Lockheed Martin F-35 aircraft in December 2021. According to the project schedule,the new aircraft would arrive in Finland around 2025–2030.
