Before the Kenyan general election in 2013, Anyieka voted as part of the Nyanza Province.

Kisii, Kenya City in Kisii County, Kenya

Kisii is a municipality and a major urban centre in south-western Kenya. It is the capital of the Kisii County which has a population of 1,266,860 according to the Kenya National Census of 2019. Kisii Town also serves as the main urban and commercial centre in the Gusii Highlands and the South Nyanza region and the second largest town in formerly greater Nyanza after Kisumu City. It is a bustling town and a home to several businesses, organizations, educational institutions and government agencies. Kisii municipality sits right at the centre of the western Kenya tourist circuit that includes the Tabaka Soapstone Carvings, Maasai Mara Game Reserve, Lambwe Valley Game Reserve and the entire Lake Victoria basin. Homa Bay is a town on the south shore of Winam Gulf of Lake Victoria, in western Kenya. It lies near Mount Homa and Ruma National Park, the latter noted for Jackson's hartebeests and roan antelope.

1356 Nyanza

1356 Nyanza, provisional designation 1935 JH, is a dark asteroid from the background population of the outer asteroid belt, approximately 63 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 3 May 1935, by South-African astronomer Cyril Jackson at the Union Observatory in Johannesburg. The asteroid was named for the former Nyanza Province in Kenya, Africa.

The Kisumu massacre occurred when the presidential guard and police forces shot and killed several civilians in Kisumu Town, the capital of Nyanza Province in Kenya. This took place on October 25, 1969. The official death toll from government sources stands at 11 fatalities but other sources place this number at closer to 100. Victims included women and children, some of whom were shot 30–50 km away from the epicentre of the riots. According to media reports, the government of the day made attempts to cover up the extent of the massacre.

Esau Khamati Oriedo Kenyan Christian evangelist, philanthropist and entrepreneur

Esau Khamati Sambayi Oriedo was a Kenyan Christian evangelist, a philanthropist, an entrepreneur and a trade unionist, a veteran of World War I and World War II as a soldier in the King's African Rifles (KAR), a barrister, and an anti-colonialism activist. In 1923 he singlehandedly altered the Christian church landscape in Bunyore and the rest of North Nyanza region—in the present-day western and Nyanza regions of Kenya. He was an indomitable adept all-around crusader for a myriad of polygonal causes—the rights of the aboriginal peoples, a stalwart advocate for the syncretism of Christianity and traditional African cultural moralities, and a literacy champion—in the British East African Protectorate & Colony of Kenya, during the period that span more than five decades of the colonial and postcolonial epoch.

Kunta people

The Kunta people Bantu community living on the eastern shores of Lake Victoria in South Nyanza, Kenya, in the Ngodhe area in Gembe locality and Muhuru Bay area, and the nearby islands, such as Mfangano, Ringiti, Takawiri, Elemba and Rusinga. The Abakunta have been overlooked in both colonial and independent Kenya. The Kenyan government today take them to be Suba people.
