Apollonia (also called Stavri [2] ) is a village in Sifnos, Cyclades, Greece. It is the capital (chora) and largest village of the island with 869 inhabitants as of the 2011 Greek Census. [3] It is the head of the homonymous community, which includes the villages Vathy, Kamares, Kastro, Platys Gialos, Kato Petali, Faros and Chrysopigi and has a total population of 1,898 residents (2021). [1] It is named after the god Apollo of the Greek mythology. [2]

General information

Apollonia is located on top of three hills in the inner part of Sifnos. Traditional cycladic architecture is dominant in the village. [2] People born in Apollonia include satyric poet and journalist Kleanthis Triantafyllopoulos [4] and Gregory VII of Constantinople. [5] In the central square of the village there is a folklore museum. [2] The village also has plenty of churches, something common in the whole island. [2]

Kranidi is a town and a former municipality in Argolis, Peloponnese, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Ermionida, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 252.938 km2 (97.660 sq mi). Some say the name is derived from the word Koronida, while others claim it is from the word Kranaos, which means "rocky trough". The town's name is thought to come from an ancient temple of Apollo on the site of the church of Panayia Yeraniofora. The second-largest town is Artemonas, thought to be named after an ancient temple of Apollo's sister Artemis, located at the site of the church of Panayia Kokhi. The village of Kastro, was the capital of the island during ancient times until 1836. It is built on top of a high cliff on the island's east shore and today has extensive medieval remains and is the location of the island's archeological museum. Kastro is a settlement in Sifnos, Cyclades, Greece. According to the 2011 census it had 118 inhabitants. Kastro is built on top of a steep hill near the eastern coast of the island, at an altitude of 80 meters. Below the hill there is a small bay, which was used as the port of the settlement.

Vathy is a small seaside village in Sifnos, Greece. According to the 2011 census it had a population of 40 permanent residents. It is located on the southwest coast of the island facing the neighboring island of Kimolos.

Pollonia or Apollonia is a seaside village in the north-eastern part of the island of Milos, Greece. It is the second harbor of Milos island after Adamantas and it has taken its name from the temple of Apollo that existed to the east of the settlement. There is a regular connection from the village to the neighboring island of Kimolos with a small boat. The main beach beach of Pollonia is sandy and popular to tourists, while there are two more beaches near the village: "Polychroni's beach" and "Piso thalassa".
