Aran Economic Region (Azerbaijani : Aran iqtisadi rayonu) was one of the 10 economic regions of Azerbaijan. It bordered Iran to the south, as well as the economic regions of Upper Karabakh, Ganja-Gazakh, Shaki-Zagatala, Mountainous Shirvan, Absheron, and Lankaran. The region consisted of the districts of Agdash, Aghjabadi, Barda, Beylagan, Bilasuvar, Jalilabad, Goychay, Hajigabul, Imishli, Kurdamir, Neftchala, Saatly, Sabirabad, Salyan, Ujar, Yevlakh, Zardab and the cities of Mingachevir and Shirvan. The territory of the economic region was 21,430 km2 and covers 24.7% of Azerbaijan. [3] [1]

More than 50% of the territory is plain areas below the sea level. The climate of the region is dry subtropical. [1]
The major natural resources of the economic region are natural gas, oil, mineral water, and construction materials. [1] [5] South-eastern and central regions of the economic region is rich with natural resources. [6] The region has underground and above-ground fuel-energy resources. [1]

The industrial sector of the region includes light and food industries, chemical, machinery, and construction material production. There are chemical industry enterprises in Salyan, Neftchala, and Mingechevir cities. Machinery is developed in Shirvan, Mingechevir, and Salyan. Enterprises of light industry are facilitated in all administrative divisions of the economic region. Major areas of the light industry in the region are cotton production, cotton clothing, artificial leather production, and carpet-making. 90% of cotton production of the country is produced in the Aran economic region. Fruit-vegetables processing, meat-milk, fishery canned products, and livestock products are part of food industry in the economic region. [6] [1]
Viniculture, dry-subtropical fruit-growing, wheat production, cotton production, and horticulture are the main parts of agriculture in the region. [1]
The region is on the high transport lines of Azerbaijan. Those transport lines connect the capital city Baku with other economic regions, as well as with Iran, Georgia, and Turkey. There is Yevlakh-Baku airline available as well. [1] [8]
The total area of the center is over 6900 m 2. The center comprises a business center, administrative rooms, and auxiliary buildings, an exhibition hall, an assembly hall for 180 people and small conference halls. The purpose of the center is to identify prime concerns related to the socio-economic development of the Aran economic region, to make proposals on these concerns, implement regional policies, develop entrepreneurship, support small and medium entrepreneurs, organize awareness, consulting and information services. Agdash District is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. It is located in the centre of the country and belongs to the Central Aran Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Yevlakh, Shaki, Oghuz, Qabala, Goychay, Ujar, Zardab, and Barda. Its capital and largest city is Agdash. As of 2020, the district had a population of 111,100.
Yevlakh is a city in Azerbaijan, 265 km west of capital Baku. It is surrounded by, but administratively separate from, the Yevlakh District.

Barda District is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. It is located in the center of the country and belongs to the Aran Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Tartar, Agdam, Aghjabadi, Zardab, Agdash, and Yevlakh. Its capital and largest city is Barda. As of 2020, the district had a population of 157,500.
Goychay District is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. It is located in the centre of the country and belongs to the Central Aran Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Agdash, Qabala, Ismayilli, Kurdamir, and Ujar. Its capital and largest city is Goychay. As of 2020, the district had a population of 121,700. It is famous for its pomegranate growing industry, and for its pomegranate festival.
Hajigabul District is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. It is located in the east of the country and belongs to the Shirvan-Salyan Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Kurdamir, Agsu, Shamakhi, Gobustan, Absheron, Baku, Salyan, Sabirabad and the city of Shirvan. Its capital and largest city is Hajigabul. As of 2020, the district had a population of 76,600.
Saatly District is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. It is located in the centre of the country and belongs to the Central Aran Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Imishli, Sabirabad, and Bilasuvar. Its capital and largest city is Saatly. As of 2020, the district had a population of 109,100.
Shahbuz District is one of the 7 districts of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. The district borders the districts of Julfa, Babek, and the Syunik and Vayots Dzor provinces of Armenia. Its capital and largest city is Shahbuz. As of 2020, the district had a population of 25,300.
Kurdamir is a city and the capital of the Kurdamir District of Azerbaijan. It is located in Aran Economic Region.
Yuxarı Mollu is a village in the Qubadli District of Azerbaijan.
Alıqulu is a village in the Lachin District of Azerbaijan.
Tasy Verst, Tsaghkadzor or Onverst is a village de facto in the Shushi Province of the breakaway Republic of Artsakh, de jure in the Shusha District of Azerbaijan, in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Two-thirds of energy in Azerbaijan comes from fossil gas and almost a third from oil. Azerbaijan is a major producer of oil and gas, much of which is exported. Most electricity is generated by gas-fired power plants.
Shaki-Zagatala Economic Region is one of the 14 economic regions of Azerbaijan. It borders Russia to the north and Georgia to the west, as well as the economic regions of Quba-Khachmaz, Mountainous Shirvan, Central Aran, and Ganja-Dashkasan. The region consists of the districts of Balakan, Zagatala, Gakh, Shaki, Oghuz and Qabala. It has an area of 8,840 square kilometres (3,410 sq mi). Its population was estimated to be at 630.4 thousand people in January 2021.

Mountainous Shirvan Economic Region is one of the 14 economic regions of Azerbaijan. It borders the economic regions of Shaki-Zagatala, Guba-Khachmaz, Absheron-Khizi, Shirvan-Salyan, and Central Aran. The region consists of the districts of Agsu, Ismayilli, Gobustan, and Shamakhi. It has an area of 6,130 square kilometres (2,370 sq mi). Its population was estimated to be at 324.8 thousand people in January 2021.
Central Aran Economic Region is one of the 14 economic regions of Azerbaijan. It borders the economic regions of Shaki-Zagatala, Mountainous Shirvan, Shirvan-Salyan, Mil-Mughan, Karabakh, and Ganja-Dashkasan. The region consists of the districts of Agdash, Goychay, Kurdamir, Ujar, Yevlakh, Zardab, as well as the city of Mingachevir. It has an area of 6,690 square kilometres (2,580 sq mi). Its population was estimated to be at 740 thousand people in January 2021.
Shirvan-Salyan Economic Region is one of the 14 economic regions of Azerbaijan. It borders Iran to the west, as well as the economic regions of Mil-Mughan, Central Aran, Mountainous Shirvan, Absheron-Khizi, Baku, and Lankaran-Astara. The region consists of the districts of Bilasuvar, Hajigabul, Neftchala, Salyan, as well as the city of Shirvan. It has an area of 6,080 square kilometres (2,350 sq mi). Its population was estimated to be at 501.3 thousand people in January 2021.
