The term fedayee was originally used during the Armenian national movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Still, it was also used to refer to the Armenian irregular forces in the early 1990s when the dispute with Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh was turning into the First Nagorno-Karabakh War.

Role

According to some estimates, the detachments played one of the decisive roles in the victory of the Armenian army, as they were the main force that fought in the first years of the war. These volunteer units formed the basis for the Armed Forces of Armenia.

Tatul Zhorzhiki Krpeyan was an Armenian commander. He was the self-appointed leader of paramilitary units in Getashen and Martunashen villages in Shahumyan Region of Artsakh/Armenia during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War. He was killed during Operation Ring by the Soviet Azerbaijani OMON.

Simon Achikgyozyan was one of the earliest Armenian military commanders during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War. He is considered a hero in Armenia.

The Ministry of Defence of Artsakh is a government agency of the unrecognized Republic of Artsakh. It is the executive body in implementing defence policies of the Artsakh Defence Army. The current minister of defence is Lieutenant General Kamo Vardanyan. Following an Azerbaijani assault on 19 September 2023, Artsakh agreed to dissolve itself by 1 January 2024.

Tiran Vazgeni Khachatryan is an Armenian lieutenant general who formerly served as the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia. During the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, Khachatryan was conferred with the title of National Hero of Armenia.

The Erato Detachment is a military unit of the Armenian Ground Forces. It is the first all-women military unit in the Armenian Armed Forces. It was created after clashes between Armenia and Azerbaijan occurred in July 2020, and it operated primarily during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war.

The 4th Army Corps is a regional military formation the Armenian Army, located in the capital of the Vayots Dzor Province.

The National Democratic Pole also known as the National Democratic Alliance or the National Democratic Party, is an Armenian political alliance between the Sasna Tsrer Pan-Armenian Party, the National Progress Party of Armenia, as well as, several independent politicians. The European Party of Armenia was a founding member, but withdrew from the alliance in May 2021.

The 3rd Army Corps is a regional military formation of the Armenian Army, located in the city of Vanadzor in the Lori Province. Its commander is Grigory Khatchaturov, a major general in the army who is also the son of former Collective Security Treaty Organization Secretary-General Yuri Khatchaturov.

The 2nd Independent Motorized Rifle Brigade "Vardan Mamikonian", also known as Military Unit 60369 is a military formation of the Armenian Army, located in the city of Goris in the Syunik Province. It is also partially stationed in Karakhanbeyli. It is part of the 1st Army Corps of the Armenian Ground Forces.

The Arabo Volunteer Detachment or Arabo Battalion was a paramilitary Armenian volunteer unit during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, composed of Armenians mainly from Armenia and Karabakh, as well as Armenians from abroad. It was an ARF-affiliated unit.

The 14th Independent Motorized Rifle Regiment is a military formation of the Armenian Army, located in the city of Kapan. It is a recipient of the Order of Combat Cross of the First Degree.

The 77th Shushi Separate Battalion or Shushi Independent Battalion was a unit of the Artsakh Defence Army. It was formed on 1 September 1992, originally consisting of over 1,000 soldiers including many from the Armenian diaspora. Most soldiers in the battalion were members of the ARF. It took part in Operation Horadiz.

The 2nd Army Corps is a regional military formation of the Armenian Army, located in the city of Khachaghbyur in the Gegharkunik Province. The 2nd Army Corps has been awarded the First Degree Order of Battle Cross.

The Sambo Federation of Armenia, is the regulating body of sambo in Armenia, governed by the Armenian Olympic Committee. The headquarters of the federation is located in Yerevan.
