Artificial Intelligence is the tenth solo studio album by the Welsh rock musician John Cale,released on 6 September 1985 by Beggars Banquet Records. [1] [2]
Artificial Intelligence was originally titled Black Rose. The title and some changes to the tracks delayed the album being released for five weeks.[ citation needed ]
Having produced Nico's sixth and final studio album Camera Obscura (1985),Cale recorded this album in three weeks at Strongroom Studios with her backing band,the Faction,with a couple of additional musicians. The duo of Gill O'Donovan and Susie O'List who performed backing vocals on this album had previously performed backing vocals on tours with Eurythmics.
Following the chaotic period during which the album (and the previous two) were recorded,John and RiséIrushalmi Cale's daughter Eden was born,which promptly caused Cale to kick his addictions to alcohol and cocaine,and to temporarily abandon recording studio albums and performing live in favour of other projects (until 1989's Words for the Dying ).[ citation needed ]
Artificial Intelligence was released on 6 September 1985 by Beggars Banquet Records. "Dying on the Vine" was released as a single in the UK and "Satellite Walk" (Remix by Carl Beatty) in the UK and Germany. The otherwise unavailable instrumental track "Crash Course in Harmonics" on the B-side of "Dying on the Vine".

In a retrospective review for AllMusic,critic Stewart Mason described the album as "an encouraging partial return to form." [3] Trouser Press wrote:"Moody and contained,but energetic and occasionally stimulating,A.I. is a reasonable if unspectacular addition to Cale’s extensive catalogue." [6]

Production and artwork
The Modern Lovers were an American rock band led by Jonathan Richman in the 1970s and 1980s. The original band existed from 1970 to 1974 but their recordings were not released until 1976 or later. It featured Richman and bassist Ernie Brooks with drummer David Robinson and keyboardist Jerry Harrison. The sound of the band owed a great deal to the influence of the Velvet Underground and the Stooges, and is now sometimes classified as "proto-punk". It pointed the way towards much of the punk rock, new wave, alternative and indie rock music of later decades. Their only album, the eponymous The Modern Lovers, contained idiosyncratic songs about dating awkwardness, growing up in Massachusetts, love of life, and the USA.
John Davies Cale is a Welsh musician, composer, and record producer who was a founding member of the American rock band the Velvet Underground. Over his six-decade career, Cale has worked in various styles across rock, drone, classical, avant-garde and electronic music.
Dreamtime is the debut studio album by English rock band the Cult. Released on 31 August 1984 by Beggars Banquet Records, it peaked at No. 21 on the UK Albums Chart and was later certified silver by the BPI after having sold 60,000 copies. The first single, "Spiritwalker", peaked at No. 1 on the UK Indie Chart. Dreamtime has subsequently been reissued in roughly 30 countries worldwide.
Beggars Banquet is the seventh British and ninth American studio album by the English rock band the Rolling Stones, released on 6 December 1968 by Decca Records in the United Kingdom and London Records in the United States. It was the first Rolling Stones album produced by Jimmy Miller, whose production work formed a key aspect of the group's sound throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Camera Obscura is the sixth and final studio album by German singer Nico, featuring the backing band the Faction. It was recorded in March–April 1985 and released later that year by Beggars Banquet Records. It was produced by John Cale, marking their first studio collaboration since The End... in 1974. It was Nico's final studio album before her death.

Phillip Geoffrey Targett-Adams, known professionally as Phil Manzanera, is an English musician, songwriter and record producer. He is the lead guitarist with Roxy Music, and was the lead guitarist with 801 and Quiet Sun. In 2006, Manzanera co-produced David Gilmour's album On an Island, and played in Gilmour's band for tours in Europe and North America. He wrote and presented a series of 14 one-hour radio programmes for station Planet Rock entitled The A-Z of Great Guitarists.
Music for a New Society is the eighth solo studio album by the Welsh musician John Cale, released in September 1982 by ZE Records and Island Records. With the suggestion from ZE Records owner Michael Zilkha, Cale performed the album mostly improvised live at Skyline Studios in New York City. The album was a creative shift after several rock-oriented albums, with sparse piano-based performances.

Honi Soit is the seventh solo studio album by the Welsh rock musician John Cale, released in March 1981 by A&M Records, and was his first studio album in six years following 1975's Helen of Troy. It was recorded and mixed by Harvey Goldberg at CBS Studios, East 30th Street and Mediasound in New York City with the intention of making a more commercial album with record producer Mike Thorne at the helm, Thorne would soon be known for his work with Soft Cell. "Dead or Alive" was the only single released from the album but it did not chart. However, Honi Soit is Cale's only studio album to date to chart on the US Billboard 200, peaking at No. 154.
I, Assassin is the fourth solo studio album by English new wave musician Gary Numan, released on 10 September 1982 by Beggars Banquet. It peaked at No. 8 on the UK Album Chart. Three singles were released from the album: "Music for Chameleons", "We Take Mystery " and "White Boys and Heroes", all of which reached the UK Top 20.

Walking on Locusts is the thirteenth solo studio album by Welsh musician John Cale, released on 24 September 1996 by Hannibal Records. Cale worked with several guest musicians including David Byrne, Moe Tucker, Dave Soldier with the Soldier String Quartet, B. J. Cole and Erik Sanko. Cale claimed the album evolved from touring with New York City's Soldier String Quartet. "Some Friends" was about his former Velvet Underground colleague, Sterling Morrison, who died unexpectedly the previous year.
Shifty Adventures in Nookie Wood is the fifteenth solo studio album by Welsh rock musician John Cale. It was released on 1 October 2012 in Europe and 2 October in North America on the Double Six Records imprint of Domino Records. It was released as digital download, heavyweight vinyl and CD. Most of the songs were recorded by John Cale in his own studio in Los Angeles. On one track he collaborated with Danger Mouse. In September 2011 Cale released the Extra Playful EP and its release promised that the new album would be released the following year. It is his first studio album since 2005's blackAcetate.
John Cale Comes Alive is the second live album by the Welsh rock musician John Cale, released in September 1984 by ZE Records after the previous studio album Caribbean Sunset. It was recorded at The Lyceum in London, UK on 26 February 1984. It also includes two studio recordings "Ooh La La" and "Never Give Up on You". The album has not been released on compact disc or digital format. The US release has different versions of both studio tracks compared to the European version.
