The Asian Boxing Council (ABCO) is a professional boxing organization that sanctions title fights in the Greater Asian region. [1]

Contents

History

At the 1985 World Boxing Council (WBC) annual convention in Bangkok, Thailand, the late Sahasombhop Srisomvongse and representatives from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan, India, Qatar, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Jordan, Malaysia and Kuwait launched the Asian Boxing Council (ABCO) as a confederation affiliated with WBC. [2]

After Sahasombhop’s death in 2000, Pol. Gen. Kovid Bhakdibhumi, became President of the WBC Asian Boxing Council.

Purpose

1. To promote the boxing activities throughout Asia.

2. To organize top rated championship bouts for the great Asian fighters.

3. To supervise the safe competition in Asian region.

IFAF Asia is the governing body of American football in Asia. It is a member of the International Federation of American Football. IFAF Asia replaced the Asian Federation of American Football (AFAF) in 2012. The oldest of IFAF Asia federations is the Japan American Football Association (JAFA), which was founded in 1934.

Boxing was one of the many sports which was held at the 2002 Asian Games in Masan Gymnasium, Masan, South Korea between 2 and 13 October 2002.

Asia Netball, formerly the Asian Netball Federation, Asian Federation of Netball Associations (AFNA) and Netball Asia, is the governing body of netball in Asia. Netball Asia was founded in 1986 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, three years after representatives from five Asian netball countries – Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and India – met during the 1983 Netball World Championships in Singapore to discuss the creation of an Asian netball governing body. The current president of the AFNA is Anna Wong. The Asian Region covers a total of 49 countries. The Asian Region currently has 8 Associate Members and 10 Full Regional & INF Members.

The Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) is a non-profit organization affiliated with the International Tennis Federation was founded in 1958. It is a continental body of national tennis associations of Asian countries. The ATF's main objectives are to raise the quality standard of Asian tennis and to popularize tennis sport among the peoples of Asia. There are currently 45 member associations who represents their respective nations. The ATF works closely with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and supports its member associations through the implementation of a wide range of programs.

The Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU) is the governing body of gymnastics in Asia. It is one of the five continental confederations making up the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). AGU was formed in October 1964 during the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo (Japan), with Japan, South Korea, China and Philippines being the founder members. AGU has headquarters in Qatar and consists of 37 member federations.

Boxing at the 2022 Asian Games was held at Hangzhou Gymnasium, Hangzhou, China, from 24 September to 5 October 2023. This tournament also served as a continental qualification event for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
