Malaysian television broadcasting was introduced on 28 December 1963. Colour television was introduced on 28 December 1978. Full-time colour transmissions were officially inaugurated on New Year's Day 1982. There are currently 18 national free-to-air terrestrial television stations in Malaysia and 2 national pay subscription television stations in Malaysia.

Astro SuperSport broadcasts in HD on Channel 831. The network has been broadcasting studio shows around major football in HD like the Premier League and FIFA World Cup since 2010 and magazine shows like FourFourTwo since 2011.

NJOI is a Malaysian free-to-view satellite television service launched on 18 February 2012 in collaboration with the government of Malaysia and Astro. It was officially announced by former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Najib Razak on 20 December 2011. At launch, the service provided 18 television channels and 19 radio stations. However, existing Astro customers may purchase this service through separate account.
Astro Arena is a Malaysian television station owned and operated by Radio Televisyen Malaysia and Astro. It is the first 24/7 Malay language sports channel in Malaysia. This channel can be viewed on channel 801 through Astro's Family Pack. Launched on 26 March 2010, it was the idea from the former Malaysian Minister of Youth and Sports YB. Dato' Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, together with the Olympic Council of Malaysia and Astro, to have a sports channel dedicated solely to the development of Malaysian sports.
Pelangi was 24-hour Indonesian language channel which broadcasts Indonesian films and dramas. This channel was only available on Astro in the Indo Pek package. Most of the programmes are available in Malay subtitles.

This channel features a variety of programs ranging from reality shows, English talk shows, travelogues, lifestyle programs, magic shows, Documentaries, celebrity cooking shows, classical Carnatic music shows, original Astro productions and blockbuster movies. It began broadcasting on 18 October 2013. Astro Vinmeen HD is part of the Basic HD channels.
ANIPLUS is an Asian multinational television channel and anime distributor based in Singapore and South Korea. Launched on 7 December 2009, the channel is currently available on SK Broadband, LG Uplus IPTV service, and KT SkyLife. The company also has a video on demand platform in its own country. Most of its programming are licensed from its parent company JJ MediaWorks for subtitling and dubbing distribution.
