A three time Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year, he won the Icelandic championship five times and the FIBA Europe League once. He spent most of his career in Spain, Italy and Iceland, winning the Italian Basketball Cup in 2006 and the Icelandic Cup in 2017.

The Tindastóll men's basketball team, commonly known as Tindastóll, is the men's basketball department of the Ungmennafélagið Tindastóll sport club. It is based in Sauðárkrókur, Iceland. As of the 2018–19 season it played in Úrvalsdeild karla. In 2015 and 2018, it was the runner up to the Icelandic national championship. On January 13, 2018, the club won its first major title when it beat KR in the Icelandic Basketball Cup finals. On 30 September 2018, Tindastóll defeated KR in the Icelandic Super Cup, 103-72.
Helena Sverrisdóttir is an Icelandic professional basketball player for Haukar of the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild kvenna. Helena has been named the Icelandic Women's Basketball Player of the Year 12 times. She has won the Icelandic championship five times and the Slovak championship two times.
The Úrvalsdeild Karla Player of the Year is an award for the top-tier basketball league in Iceland, the men's Úrvalsdeild. It was first awarded in 1968, to Birgir Örn Birgis, and the first trophy was given by Dave Zinkoff of the Philadelphia 76ers. From 1979, the award has been given to both the domestic and foreign player of the year.
Elvar Már Friðriksson is an Icelandic basketball player and a member of the Icelandic national basketball team. He has twice been named to the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild Domestic All-First team as a member of Njarðvík. In 2020, he won the Swedish championship with Borås Basket. In 2021, he was named the Lithuanian Basketball League MVP after leading the league in assists. He was named the Icelandic Male Basketball Player of the Year in 2021 and 2022.

The 1986 Ljósufjöll air crash was a plane crash that happened on 5 April 1986 at 13:26 when a Piper PA-23-250 Aztec plane from Flugfélagið Ernir, TF-ORM, crashed in Ljósufjöll in Snæfellsnes, Iceland. The aircraft was on a charter flight from Ísafjörður to Reykjavík and carried six passengers, including a couple with an 11-month-old child, and a pilot. It was believed that the plane landed in a downdraft and crashed into the slopes of Ljósufjöll, south of Sóleyjardalur. It remains one of the deadliest aviation accidents in Iceland's history and resulted in changes to aviation regulations and procedures to increase the flow of up-to-date weather information to pilots.

Úlfur Úlfur is an Icelandic hip-hop duo which consists of singers Arnar Freyr Frostason and Helgi Sæmundur Guðmundsson. Their first album, Föstudagurinn langi came out in 2011 and their second, Tvær plánetur, came out in 2015. In 2017, it published their third album, named Hefnið okkar.
Het Wapen van Amsterdam was a Dutch merchant vessel that stranded in Skeiðarársandur, Iceland, on 19 September 1667. It is commonly known as Gullskipið in Iceland due to beliefs that it was carrying a large amount of gold and diamonds. For the next few decades, several items from the ship and its cargo were salvaged despite difficulties to reach the wreck but it is not known if the salvagers managed to reach the main cargo hold. Several attempts where made to locate it in the 20th century, most notably during the 1980's, without success.
Sif, also known as TF-SIF, is a Bombardier Dash 8-Q-314 turboprop-powered surveillance and rescue aircraft operated by the Icelandic Coast Guard since 2009. It is named after Sif, the golden-haired goddess from Norse mythology and is the fourth Coast Guard aircraft to bear the name.
