The August 1 Medal was originally established in 1955 as the highest military award for members of the PLA who served during the Chinese Civil War. On 12 June 2017, with the approval of Xi Jinping, Chairman of the Central Military Commission, the Order of August the First was re-established.

Jing Haipeng is a major general of the People's Liberation Army Ground Force (PLAGF) in active service as a vice-commander of the 82nd Group Army. The July 1 Medal is the highest honorary medal of the Chinese Communist Party. The bestowal is decided by the Central Committee and presented by the General Secretary of the Central Committee. It was established on 22 July 2017. According to the party's bylaw, the medal is bestowed on "party members who have made outstanding contributions and created valuable spiritual wealth in the great cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the new great project of party construction."

Zhang Hongbing is a general (shangjiang) of the People's Liberation Army (PLA). He served as Political Commissar of the 76th Group Army from March 2017 to December 2019. Previously he served as Director of Political Department of the 20th Group Army from 2014 to 2017.

Wang Haijiang is a general (Shangjiang) of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), currently serving as commander of Western Theater Command since August 2021. He previously served as commander of Xinjiang Military District, and commander of Tibet Military District from 2016 to 2018.

The 20th Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), formally the Political Bureau of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, was elected at the 1st Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the CCP on 23 October 2022 in the aftermath of the 20th National Congress. This electoral term was preceded by the 19th Politburo. Seven of the 24 members serve in the 20th Politburo Standing Committee.
