Avient Aviation was an international cargo airline with its head office in Harare, Zimbabwe and its commercial center in the United Kingdom. The company was established in 1993 and offered scheduled and chartered flights to Africa, South America, Middle East and Far East and the Caspian region. Avient Limited was placed into administration on 5 April 2013, with flight operations taken over by AV Cargo Airlines Limited.[ citation needed ]

Corporate affairs

The company Avient Aviation had its head office in Harare, Zimbabwe. [2] [3] It had its Continental Europe office on the property of Liège Airport in Grâce-Hollogne, Belgium. It had its United Kingdom office in Global House, Manor Court in Manor Royal, Crawley, West Sussex RH10 9PY. [2] [3] Andrew Smith founded Avient's UK sales office in the United Kingdom office in 2001 [4]

Fleet

In 2009, Avient took delivery of an MD-11F [1]

Avient originally planned to replace its DC-10s with A330s, however the company decided that the MD-11F was the more appropriate substitute. [1]

As of December 2010, the Avient Aviation fleet consisted of the following aircraft with an average age of 29.7 years: Both aircraft are grounded, currently at LGG airport, Belgium [5]

As of 2013, the DC-10 has been sold, and one MD-11 (Reg.: Z-BVT / CN: 48410) is grounded in Zurich since March 2013 (as of 29 April 2014).

Accidents and incidents

On 28 November 2009, an Avient Aviation McDonnell Douglas MD-11F crashed during its take-off roll at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, resulting in the death of three persons on board and the aircraft being written off. [6]

Current activities

In April 2013, AV Cargo Airlines Limited took over the business of Avient Ltd. after Avient Limited was placed into administration, following losses. Avient SA, the Belgian branch, has been closed.

James Tickell and Carl Faulds at Hampshire, Dorset and London based 'Portland Business & Financial Solutions' were appointed joint administrators.

It also operated scheduled year-round leisure routes to Cyprus and the resorts of Spain and Portugal.

The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 is an American tri-jet wide-body airliner manufactured by American manufacturer McDonnell Douglas (MDC) and later by Boeing. Following DC-10 development studies, the MD-11 program was launched on December 30, 1986. Assembly of the first prototype began on March 9, 1988. Its maiden flight occurred on January 10, 1990, and it achieved Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification on November 8. The first delivery was to Finnair on December 7 and it entered service on December 20, 1990.

On 28 November 2009 at 08:12 (UTC+8), Avient Aviation McDonnell Douglas MD-11F, registration Z-BAV, on flight 324 from Shanghai Pudong International Airport to Manas International Airport, near Bishkek, crashed during its take off roll with the loss of 3 lives. As the aircraft rotated for departure, the tail struck the ground, and the aircraft then overshot the end of the runway, crashed and landed on top of a warehouse near the runway. The plane was written off. Avient took delivery of Z-BAV on 20 November 2009, 8 days before the crash.

Aryan Cargo Express was a cargo airline based in New Delhi, India. It operated a single Airbus A310-300F. Plans for the introduction of an MD-11F did not materialize. In December 2010 the only aircraft of the airline was stored at Mumbai International Airport and the airline had ceased operations.

Korean Air Cargo Flight 6316 (KE6316/KAL6316) was a scheduled Korean Air Cargo freight flight from Shanghai to Seoul. On 15 April 1999, the McDonnell Douglas MD-11F operating the route, registered as HL7373, crashed in Xinzhuang, Shanghai shortly after taking off from Hongqiao Airport, killing all 3 crew on board, along with 5 on the ground.
