The 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards are a recognition ceremony held October 6 at the Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami Beach, Florida, and aired October 10 on the BET cable channel. The nominations were announced on September 15, 2017.

"Family Ties" is a song by American rappers Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar. The song was released on August 27, 2021, by Columbia Records and pgLang. The song serves as the fourth single from Keem's debut album, The Melodic Blue. The song also serves as Lamar’s first musical release under pgLang, a production company he co-founded in March 2020.

Gloria Hallelujah Woods, known professionally as GloRilla, is an American rapper from Memphis, Tennessee. She first became known for her 2022 single "F.N.F. ", which peaked within the top 50 of the Billboard Hot 100 and led her to sign with fellow Memphis rapper, Yo Gotti's record label, Collective Music Group, an imprint of Interscope Records in July of that year. Released that same month, her follow-up single, "Tomorrow" spawned a remixed sequel that peaked within the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 and received double platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Both songs, along with the gold-certified single "Blessed", preceded the release of her debut extended play (EP), Anyways, Life's Great in November, which entered the Billboard 200 at number 11.

The 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards were held on October 3, 2023, as the 17th installment of the BET Hip Hop Awards, intended to recognize the best in hip hop music of 2023. The ceremony was taped in Atlanta, Georgia on October 3, and broadcast on BET the following week on October 10. The awards were hosted by Fat Joe.
