Balotra is a city situated in the Balotra district within the state of Rajasthan, India. [1] Previously, it was located in the Barmer district of the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is known for its historical and cultural significance, as well as its role as a commercial and trading center in the region.[ citation needed ]

Balotra is located at 25°50′N72°14′E / 25.83°N 72.23°E / 25.83; 72.23 . [2] It has an average elevation of 106 metres (347 feet).

Demographics

As of 2011 India census, [3] Balotra city has population of 74496 of which 38715 are males and 35781 are females. The population of children between age 0-6 is 10984 which is 14.74% of total population.

The sex-ratio of Balotra city is around 924 compared to 928 which is average of Rajasthan state. The literacy rate of Balotra city is 64.39% out of which 73.26% males are literate and 54.78% females are literate. There are 14.2% Scheduled Caste (SC) and 3.37% Scheduled Tribe (ST) of total population in Balotra city.

The station code is BLT. Earlier a metre gauge line passed through Balotra that was converted to broad gauge.

Balotra has both private and RSTRC Bus services for various cities of India like Jodhpur, Pali, Barmar, Jalore, Kota, Bikaner, Jaipur, Udaipur, Ahmadabad, Pune, Mumbai, Surat, Vadodara etc. The bus for Jodhpur and Barmar is in every 30 minutes. [5] The bus for Jalore is in every 30 minutes . [6] The bus for Pali is in every 60 minutes. The bus for cities Jaipur, Ahmedabad, [6] Pune, Surat, etc. is in both morning and nights.[ citation needed ] The nearest airport from Balotra is Jodhpur airport, 100 km away from Balotra.

Barmer District is a district in Rajasthan state of India. It is located in the western part of Rajasthan state forming a part of the Thar Desert. Barmer is the third largest district by area in Rajasthan and fifth largest district in India. Occupying an area of 28,387 km2. Being in the western part of the state, it includes a part of the Thar Desert. Jaisalmer is to the north of this district while Jalore is in its south. SardarSamand, is a lake formed by dam built across the Sukri river and Guhiya Nala, which are tributaries of Luni River. It was built with the cost of around 8 Lakhs rupees and was named after the Maharaja of Jodhpur, Sardar Singh. Its construction started in 1899 and completed in 1905–06. It is situated in Pali district of Rajasthan.
