Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University is a public university in Bangladesh. [1] It is funded by the government and is Bangladesh's first higher education institution on aerospace engineering. [2] Its campus is in Lalmonirhat. The first student admission program began in January 2020.

History

On July 11, 2018, the UGC drafted a law and submitted it to the Ministry of Education for setting up an aviation university in Bangladesh. [3] At the Council of Ministers meeting on September 28, 2018, the approval for establishing his institution was granted, along with three more universities receiving policy approval on the same day. On February 28, 2019, education minister Dipu Moni placed a bill in the National Parliament regarding the inauguration of this institution and it was passed. [4] A temporary office has been set up at the old airport at Tejgaon, Dhaka to handle the activities of the university. [5] Air Vice-Marshal AHM Fazlul Haque has been appointed as the founding Vice Chancellor of the institution on May 26, 2019. The current Vice Chancellor of the university is Air Vice-Marshal ASM Fakhrul Islam. [6]

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, popularly known by the honorific prefix Bangabandhu was a Bangladeshi politician, revolutionary, statesman, activist and diarist. The first president of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and most of his family were killed during the early hours of 15 August 1975 by a group of young Bangladesh Army personnel who invaded his Dhanmondi 32 residence as part of a coup d'état. Minister of Commerce Khondaker Mostaq Ahmad immediately took control of the government and proclaimed himself president. The assassination marked the first direct military intervention in Bangladesh's civilian administration-centric politics. 15 August is National Mourning Day, an official national holiday in Bangladesh.

Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni was a Bangladeshi politician. He was one of the nephews of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman the founding father of Bangladesh. He was the founder of Mujib Bahini Bangladesh Liberation Force-BLF one of the major guerrilla forces of the Bangladesh Liberation War and also the founder of Bangladesh Awami Jubo League, the youth wing of Bangladesh Awami League.

Nizam Mohammad Serajul Alam Khan, commonly known as Serajul Alam Khan, also called as Dada, Dadabhai and by his initials SAK, was a Bangladeshi politician, political analyst, philosopher and writer who spearheaded the Bangladesh liberation movement under the leadership of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman but also became one of the controlling forces of political polarization in post-independence Bangladesh.

The 15 August 1975 Bangladesh coup d'état was a military coup launched by mid ranking army officers in Bangladesh on 15 August 1975. The officers were part of a conspiracy to assassinate Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh, who led the independence struggle during the Bangladesh Liberation War and later served as the first and fourth president and later in between his two presidential terms served as the second prime minister of Bangladesh from April 1971 until his assassination in August 1975. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members were killed during the coup, with the exception of his two daughters Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana.

The non-cooperation movement of 1971 was a historical movement in then East Pakistan by the Awami League and the general public against the military government of Pakistan in March of that year. After the announcement of the suspension of the session of the National Assembly of Pakistan on 1 March, the spontaneous movement of the people started, but officially on the call of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the non-cooperation movement started on 2 March and continued until 25 March. The movement lasted for a total of 25 days. The main objective of this movement was to ensure the autonomy of East Pakistan from the central government of Pakistan. During this period, the control of the central government of West Pakistan over the civilian administration of East Pakistan was almost non-existent. At one stage of the movement, the whole of East Pakistan, except the cantonments, was practically under the command of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Daily Banglar Bani was a Bangladeshi national newspaper published in Bengali language. Banglar Bani had a secular ideology and was pro Bangladesh Awami League. It has closed down.

The Bangladesh Times was an English-language daily newspaper of Bangladesh. It was published by the Bangladesh Times Trustee Board which was chaired by Obaidul Haque. Mahbub Anam served as Editor of the Magazine.

Baker Hostel is a government hostel located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The hostel was founded in 1910 during the rule of the British Raj by Edward Norman Baker, the then Lieutenant Governor of Bengal. The hostel is located at 8 Smith Lane in Taltala. Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Nazrul Islam BSP, nswc, afwc, psc, GD (P) is the incumbent vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University (BSMRAAU). Prior to that appointment, he was Commander of Air Base Bashar. Before that, he served as Air Officer Commanding of BAF Base Bir Sreshtho Matiur Rahman in Jashore.

Air Vice Marshal AHM Fazlul Haque BBP, BSP, ndu, afwc, psc, GD(P) is a retired Bangladeshi 2 Star Air Force officer who has served as Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Operations). He is the founding Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University. Before join BSMRAAU, he served as Air Officer Commanding of BAF Base Bir Shretra Matiur Rahman.

Air Vice Marshal ASM Fakhrul Islam, OSP, GUP, ndc, afwc, psc, GD (P) is a Bangladesh Air Force officer and Senior Directing Staff (Air) at National Defense College, Mirpur. Prior to this position, he was Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University. Before that, he was Commandant of Bangabandhu Aeronautical Centre. He also served as Air Officer Commanding(AOC) at BAF Base Zahurul Haque, Patenga, Chattogram.
