The Banggai Regency (Indonesian : Kabupaten Banggai) is a regency located at the eastern end of Central Sulawesi Province of Indonesia. It makes up a re-established regency ( kabupaten ), created on 4 October 1999 by splitting the existing Banggai Regency into this smaller Banggai Regency situated on the mainland of Sulawesi (capital, Luwuk) and a new Banggai Islands Regency comprising the offshore islands (capital, Banggai town) which are separated from mainland Sulawesi by the Peleng Straits (Selat Peleng). The residual Banggai Regency covers an area of 9,672.70 km2 and had a population of 323,626 at the 2010 census [2] and 362,275 at the 2020 census; [3] the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 366,224 (comprising 186,816 males and 179,408 females). Administration

At the time of the 2010 census, the Banggai regency was divided into eighteen districts (kecamatan). Subsequently, another five districts have been created by the division of four existing districts in 2012 and 2015. The twenty-three districts are tabulated below with their areas and their 2010 [2] and 2020 [3] Census populations, together with the official estimates as at mid 2022. [1] The table also includes the locations of the district administrative centres, the number of villages in each district (291 rural desa and 46 urban kelurahan in total), and its post code.

Luwuk is the capital of Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. Its area is 72.82 km2 following boundary changes in 2012 and 2015. There used to be an oil industry in the region. At the 2020 census it had a total population of 34,849 in the town.

Bengkalis Regency is a regency of Indonesia in Riau Province. The regency was originally established in 1956 and then included most of the northern part of the province, but on 4 October 1999 it was divided up, with most of the territory being split off to form the new Rokan Hilir Regency, Siak Regency and the city of Dumai. On 19 December 2008 a further five districts were removed to create the new Meranti Islands Regency, leaving eight districts in the Bengkalis Regency. These eight districts has increased since 2010 to eleven by the splitting of existing districts on the Sumatran mainland.

Muara Teweh is the capital of North Barito Regency, which covers an area of 10,152.25 km2. The Banggai Archipelago is a group of islands, which are located at the far eastern end of Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. It makes up a regency (kabupaten) of Central Sulawesi Province of Indonesia, created on 4 October 1999 by splitting the existing Banggai Regency into a new Banggai Regency situated on the mainland of Sulawesi and a Banggai Islands Regency then comprising the entire archipelago. On 14 December 2012 a further splitting of the Regency was the removal of the more southerly seven districts to form a new Banggai Laut Regency.

It comprises southern part of the Banggai Islands archipelago, including the main island of Banggai itself, the islands of Labobo and Bangkurung to the southwest of Banggai Island, and the numerous small Bokan Islands to the southeast. It covers a land area of 725.67 km2, and the districts now comprising the new Regency had a population of 62,183 at the 2010 Census and 70,435 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 71,350.
