Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission or BERC, [1] is a regulatory agency that regulates the gas, electricity and petroleum products in Bangladesh and is located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. [2] [3]

History

The commission was created in 2004 and is responsible for the setting up of gas and electricity prices in Bangladesh. Its also arbitrates disputes in the energy industry. [2] Its approval is need for any changes in the price of electricity. [4] The Energy Security Fund is under this agency. [5]

The Chairman of the Commission receives the rank of Justice of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court and other members receive the rank, salary and other ancillary benefits as determined by the Government. [6]

The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (Bengali: রূপপুর পারমাণবিক বিদ্যুৎকেন্দ্র) will be a 2.4 GWe nuclear power plant in Bangladesh. The nuclear power plant is being constructed at Rooppur of Ishwardi upazila in Pabna District, on the bank of the river Padma, 87 miles (140 km) west of Dhaka. It will be the country's first nuclear power plant, and the first of the two units is expected to go into operation in 2024. The VVER-1200/523 Nuclear reactor and critical infrastructures are being built by the Russian Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation. In the main construction period, the total number of employees will reach 12,500, including 2,500 specialists from Russia. It is expected to generate around 15% of the country's electricity when completed.

The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources or Ministry of Energy is a ministry of the Government of Bangladesh. It is mainly responsible for all policies and matters relating to electricity generation, transmission, and distribution from conventional and non-conventional energy sources including hydro electricity. It also deals with the Import, Distribution, Exploration, Extraction, Pricing, and other policy related details of the primary fuels.

Nazmul Ahsan is a Bangladesh government owned natural gas distribution company in the Sylhet Division. It is one of the three largest gas distribution companies in Bangladesh; the other two are Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited and Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited. Nazmul Ahsan is the Chairman of Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution System Limited.
