Basavana Bagewadi is a municipality and taluka in Bijapur district in the state of Karnataka, India.
Basavana Bagewadi town is claimed to be the birthplace of Basava, the philosopher of the Lingayat sect. The Basaveshwar Temple was constructed in the 11th century during the rule of the Chalukya dynasty.[ citation needed ]
