The Pacific Games, is a continental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from Oceania. The inaugural Games took place in 1963 in Suva, Fiji, and most recently in 2019 in Apia, Samoa. The Games were called the South Pacific Games from 1963 to 2007. The Pacific Games Council (PGC) organises the Games and oversees the host city's preparations. Athletes with a disability are included as full members of their national teams. In each sporting event, gold medals are awarded for first place, silver medals are awarded for second place, and bronze medals are awarded for third place.
The 2003 South Pacific Games were held in Suva, Fiji from 28 June to 12 July 2003. They are also known as the XII South Pacific Games.
The 2011 Pacific Games took place in Nouméa, New Caledonia, from August 27 to September 10, 2011. Nouméa was the 14th host of the Pacific Games. Upon closure of the registration for entries, "some 4,300 athletes" had registered from the twenty-two competing nations, although it was expected that not all would attend.
The VII South Pacific Mini Games were held July 25-August 4, 2005 in Palau.
The Vanuatu national rugby sevens team is Vanuatu's representative in rugby sevens.
Sailing, for the 2013 Pacific Mini Games, took place from Tekaviki Island, in front of the Vakala sailing HQ. The island is located in the northeast from Mata-Utu. Races took place from 3 to 12 September 2013. The Laser and the Hobie 16 classes were held at these Games.
Basketball at the Pacific Games has been played since 1963. It has also been contested at the Pacific Mini Games and, from the games at Port Vila in 2017, under the 3x3 format.
Boxing at the Pacific Games has been contested since 1963 when it was included as one of ten sports at the First South Pacific Games held in Suva, Fiji. There are presently ten weight classes for the men's competition at the Pacific Games, known as the South Pacific Games prior to 2011, in accordance with the (amateur) International Boxing Association (AIBA) classifications.
The 1971 South Pacific Games, held at Papeete in Tahiti from 25 August to 5 September 1971, was the fourth edition of the South Pacific Games.
The 1999 South Pacific Games, held in Guam from 29 May to 12 June 1999, was the eleventh edition of the South Pacific Games.
Netball at the Pacific Games has been an optional Pacific Games sport since 1963. Fiji have been the tournament's most successful team, winning seven gold medals. Cook Islands have won four gold medals. To date, only the Cook Islands and Fiji have won netball gold at the Pacific Games.
Volleyball at the Pacific Games has been played since 1963.
Golf has been contested at the Pacific Games since 1969 when the sport was included as one of fifteen sports at the Third South Pacific Games held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. It is a core sport on the Pacific Games program.
Weightlifting at the Pacific Games has been contested since 1966 when it was included as one of twelve sports at the Second South Pacific Games held in Nouméa, New Caledonia. A weightlifting competition for women was introduced in 1995 for the games in Papeete.
Swimming at the 1999 South Pacific Games took place in Agana, the capital of Guam, at the Southern High School Pool between 30 May and 5 June 1999. It was the eleventh edition of the South Pacific Games. Men's and women's open water events of 5 kilometres were introduced in 1999, with swimmers from American Samoa, Fiji, Guam, New Caledonia, Northern Marianas, Micronesia, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, and Tahiti competing.
Outrigger canoeing, mostly using va'a canoes, has been contested at the Pacific Games since the 1995 edition held in Papeete, Tahiti. The va'a rudderless outrigger has been raced at all regattas, although the "Galaide II" outrigger canoe with rudder has also been used. Tahiti has dominated the competition since inception, topping the medal count at all regattas the country has attended. The Pacific Mini Games has also hosted va'a regattas, with the first events held in Koror, Palau at the 2005 Mini Games.
Sailing at the Pacific Games was first contested when the sport was added for the 1969 games at Port Moresby. It has also been included at several of the Pacific Mini Games, starting with the fifth edition held in American Samoa in 1997.
Cycling at the 2003 South Pacific Games was held from 3–5 July 2003 on the Suva foreshore in Fiji. Three women's road cycling events were contested, with New Caledonia winning two gold medals and Tahiti winning one.
Shooting at the 2003 South Pacific Games was held from 8–11 July at the Royal Fiji Military Forces Shooting Range at Vatuwaqa in Suva, Fiji. The competition was postponed for four days from the original schedule due to high winds at the venue. Tahiti and Fiji were the most successful gold medal-winning nations, winning four and two respectively.
The Kiribati women's national football team is the women's national football team of Kiribati and is controlled by the Kiribati Islands Football Association. Kiribati is not a member of FIFA or of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), and is therefore not eligible to enter the FIFA Women's World Cup. Kiribati is a member of ConIFA, though there have been no women's tournaments to date for the side to participate in.
